CES 2020 has truly been a bumper year for MSI as they achieved a clean sweep of awards, with ten of their products managing to bring home the gold. Two of their amazing products they were showcasing this year were their new GS66 gaming laptops – the Raider and the Stealth. We got hands-on with them on the show floor to get a closer look.
Laptop Specs
MSI GS66 Stealth
First up was the GS66 Stealth gaming laptop. This model lives up to its name with an unassuming design that looks more like a sleek everyday laptop rather than the traditional large or gaudy gaming laptops we’re used to seeing, with our man on the stand describing it as thin, light and portable – as ready to game in a coffee shop as it is at home.
The GS66 Stealth comes equipped with a triple-fan cooling system – already impressive in such a small laptop, but it becomes even more so when you learn that the fans use the world’s smallest 0.1mm fan blades, which has been described as toning down the overall noise of cooling significantly. In fact, the overall audio quality of this laptop is higher than past versions, thanks to the positioning of the speakers, which now point up and to the side of the laptop rather than just straight up.
It’s not just the audio and sound management getting an overhaul though. The G66 Stealth will be equipped with a screen capable of a 300hz refresh rate, a world first, which MSI have described as ‘buttery smooth’ Fantastic stuff if you are particularly competitive when it comes to gameplay, and definitely ensures that this laptop will be future proof for a long while yet.
The G66 Stealth has also been described as more rigid and industrial overall, which is great considering that it has been designed with gamers on the go in mind. A great new entry into MSI’s laptop series, we can’t wait to try it out when it’s finally released to the general public.
MSI GE66 Raider
The GE66 Raider is more of a traditional gamers laptop. Described as a miniature version of a GT76, the GE66 is definitely more portable than other laptops of this caliber have been. Kitted out with a monitor capable of a 300hz refresh rate, the laptop is finished with an RGB lighting system that we know gamers always love when it comes to their tech.
The GE66 Raider’spower system is getting a boost as well. The GE66 Raider will be outfitted with a 99.9-watt outward battery. Great news concerning overall play time, but even better when you realize that MSI picked this size because it is the largest battery size you can take onto a plane. So, portability has been greatly improved for sure.
We also know that both of these laptops are expected to outfit with the ‘latest 10th Gen Intel Core H-series processors with NVIDIA GeForce graphics’, which is massively exciting for those who are looking forward to high performance on a portable platform.
Final Thoughts
MSI always bring some incredible products to the table when it comes to gaming laptops – and this year’s CES was no different at all. Whilst MSI have been a little withholding with the official release dates for these laptops, we do know that we can expect them sometime in 2020! Keep an eye on WePC for all the latest news, and for more information on these gaming laptops as we get it!
