Resident Evil 8 Announcement: What Do We Know?

Finally, Resident Evil 8 has been revealed at the PS5 Future of Gaming showcase!

It’s a game we’ve all been waiting to hear about, many of us checking up on all the rumors and crafting theories. But finally we have some concrete information.

Capcom has officially announced that Resident Evil Village will be out in 2021 – available on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X, and PC. You can take a look at the trailer below:

What Do We Know About the Plot?

As expected, the new Resident Evil game will use the same first-person perspective that was introduced in Resident Evil 7.

In terms of plot, this game will take place a few years after the events of the previous game. In Resident Evil 7, we saw protagonist Ethan Winters travel to Louisiana to find his missing wife, Mia.

Capcom’s Kellen Haney said on the PlayStation blog: “Resident Evil Village sees the reunited Mia and Ethan living happily together and putting their shared nightmares of the Baker’s plantation house behind them.

“Finally able to move on from those horrifying events, Ethan’s world suddenly comes crashing down once again when Chris Redfield, an unexpected yet familiar face makes an appearance, setting off a chain of events that sees a distraught Ethan seeking answers to Chris’s shocking actions… and ultimately finding him in a mysterious village.”

A Creepy Village Full of Secrets

Resident Evil Village will have a greater focus on exploration and combat when compared to the cramped corridors we got to explore in Resident Evil 7. Ethan will be forced to search for answers within “a strange, snow-capped village” with decrepit buildings to explore.

Haney went on to highlight the importance of the village itself. “The village itself is just as important a character as any other, a location with a life of its own that will frequently keep you on edge as you discover its secrets.”

Setting, Symbols and Familiar Faces

In this trailer, we see ultra-realistic graphics, plenty of creepy symbolism, and a glimpse at some of the main monsters we’ll be facing. It also looks like there will be some puzzles to solve which appear to have a connection to the Umbrella symbol.

There’s the return of a couple of familiar faces that fans are already frantically theorizing about. One character looks like a witch with Marguerite-like powers from Resident Evil 7. Another brief clip shows us a character who looks like Executioner Majini from Resident Evil 5.

Then we’ve also got a fairly creepy-looking glasses-wearing character who fans are speculating about. Some think it’s the doctor from Resident Evil 4, but others are saying it could be Daniel Fabron, from the recent multiplayer title, Resident Evil Resistance

Sadly, it looks like we’ve got at least a whole year to wait before we find out any more. For now, though, we’re happy this game has finally got an official announcement and a fantastic trailer to pick apart in the meantime.

Onto you, what are your theories for Resident Evil Village? Which characters do you think will be making a return? We’d love to hear your thoughts on the new Resident Evil announcement in the comments below!
