The Glorious Model O 2 review has been something we’ve been looking forward to for a long time, since we reviewed the previous Model O- over a year ago. The Model O- managed to get a 4.5/5 from us at the time, and currently features on our best gaming mouse page, so the sequel has a lot to live up to, and sequels are rarely as good as the original.

Given that Glorious has now expanded to be a significant player in the PC gaming peripheral game, the standards they have to meet have grown correspondingly significant. That being said, they haven’t’ set a foot wrong yet, but there’s always time to mess up.

So, a few months after the official announcement, we were kindly provided with a review sample a couple weeks ahead of time, we’ve been taking the new mouse for a spin to get a feel for it, and are ready to present our findings. So, enjoy our full Glorious Model O 2 review as we put this bad boy under the microscope. Well, more like a macro lens, but yeah, you know what we mean.

In the past, we’ve talked smack about how boring unboxing gaming mice is, as they all generally follow the same formula and we got tired of writing about it. unfortunately, the story is much the same with the Glorious Model O 2: It’s secure, not environmentally wasteful, and contains everything you need. So yeah, it’s boring, but you’re into that, the details are as follows.

The experience itself is generally average and a touch austere. Sliding the up over the inner box you’re greeted by the thin box that holds all the paper work, after this is removed you’ll find the mouse. As per usual, there is a small foam grommet to hold the mouse down into it’s little cradle.

Essentially, unless the mouse is run over buy a car or dropped out of a helicopter, you can expect it to arrive in mint condition, as our review sample did, so you need not worry about chaotic delivery people hoisting it over your fence as it will survive.

Setup is the same as always too. Plus the mouse in with the included USB Type-A to Type-C cable to get started immediately, or plug the dongle in and flip the switch to the ‘2.4’ setting to connect wirelessly.

You can also take the rogue option and connect via Bluetooth 5.2, which requires flipping that same switch to the ‘BT’ setting and looking for the mouse in the Bluetooth settings of your gaming laptop, gaming PC, or tablet.

Glorious Model O 2 design: Tidy, but unremarkable

It’s worth noting at the outset that the Glorious Model O 2 is available in matte black in addition to the white review sample we received. Regardless of which colorway you go for, you’ll be treated to a fairly elegant, but ultimately derivative design.

This is not to say that we dislike the design, far from it. In fact, we’re aware of how hard it must be to innovate when the shape of the human hand remains stubbornly unchanged year after year.

Glorious Model O 2 top down

This means that mouse designers, be it Asus, Corsair, Razer, or. yes. Glorious, are all stuck with the same 3 or 4 rough shapes. So unless you’re going for a medically-back ergonomic mouse like our boy the Posturite Penguin, you can really only make small changes to the shape, size, and location of the buttons.

Of course, the aesthetics and color schemes are always changeable, and we think that Glorious has done an outstanding job modernising the now dated design of the original Model O. In fact the Glorious Model O- review was the first review we ever did on a Glorious product, and luckily, we kept it around so we’re able to directly compare the two.

First up, we see the removal of the more detailed buff Glorious PC Gaming Master Race guy that was the mascot of their previous branding. While we miss the Zero Punctuation reference, we understand why Glorious has grown out of this branding. We’re grateful for this, in fact, as the Glorious Model O 2 looks way more neat and tidy.

We mentioned earlier that the design is unremarkable, and we stand by that, however, it does look very cool, divisive honeycomb shape notwithstanding.

Front and centre, we find a simplified version of the aforementioned Glorious Beefcake man right between the mouse buttons underneath eh convenient DPI cycle button. If you’re right-handed, this is the only branding that’s visible, resulting in a all-but brand-neutral appearance, something we always like.

On the right-hand side of the mouse, we find branding that reads ‘GLORIOUS│MODEL O 2’. Again, not visible from the user’s point of view. Other than the inevitable corporate fussiness sticker thankfully positioned on the underside of the mouse, that’s it for branding.

Another change that visually differentiates the Glorious Model O 2 from it’s predecessor is the shape of the holes that make up the weight-saving honeycomb design. Previously they were hexagonal, with the sharp corners resulting in an aggressive look and more noticeable texture on the palm. Glorious has now made these holes circular with more rounded edges, stretching the definition of ‘honeycomb’ and creating a nicer, more gentle aesthetic. Also, the holes are now entirely absent from the mouse buttons, where previously they extended a centimetre or so down towards the scroll wheel.

When it comes to RGB lighting, the Glorious Model O 2 does well too, though having a couple hundred holes in the shell is kind of cheating as even the weakest of LEDs will be vivid.

Of course, the holes are covered when you’re actually using the mouse, but there is also a curved slice of diffuse RGB running along each side of the mouse just under the almost imperceptible seam between the top shell and the sides. So if you’re into the glowy vibes while gaming, they’re still here to enjoy.

That’s about it for notable visuals, you can enjoy our spectacular in-house product photography for reference to see these details yourself.

Glorious Model O 2 build quality: Rock solid

As far as we can remember, this is the most well-built mouse we’ve ever encountered. It doesn’t creak when squeezed, rattle when shaken, or otherwise feel anything less than fantastic.

We also have to commend the surface-finish. It’s ostensibly smooth to the touch, but a closer look reveals a slightly rough micro texture that keeps the mouse glued to your palm during the sweatiest of high-intensity clutches in Apex Legends, Valorant, or CS:GO.

Whatever your chosen FPS game, this mouse will be a reliable weapon for winning, as the buttons are clicky and defined, the scroll wheel is tactile with a nice bump between notches, and 100% PTFE mouse feet glide with the best of them.

There is one issue, though: Where the top shell meets the bottom of the mouse at the back just under the heel of your hand, there is an overlap, resulting in a slightly sharp edge. While we didn’t find this noticeable to the touch, we did spot it, so we thought we’d point it out just in case, though an error this small could be put down to manufacturing or engineering tolerances.

Glorious Model O 2 performance: Competitive to the core

We also have no complaints when it comes to the performance of the Glorious Model O 2, with the Glorious BAMF 2.0 sensor providing up to a ludicrous 26,000 DPI at a max speed of 650 IPS. This, for reference, is 250 more than the Logitech G Pro X Superlight, firmly positioning the Model O 2 as a competitor to the current king.

In terms of actual gameplay, we found the Glorious Model O 2 to be a delight. All the things we mentioned about the build quality shine here, combining to create a deadly FPS gaming mouse that won’t hold you back. It instead removes the opportunity for excuses, which was a bit depressing as we are pretty bad at gaming to be honest.

Demoralizing revelation aside, this is what you want from a gaming mouse: A tool that allows your skill, or lack thereof, to be used in your game of choice without adversely affecting it, and the Glorious Model O 2 certainly does that.

We want to mention the side buttons here too, as they’re were perfectly positioned for us, meaning that a grenade throw or melee attack became second-nature. While these buttons aren’t quite as satisfyingly clicky as the main mouse buttons, they actuate instantly, and require the perfect amount of force, making them easy to press, but keeping accidental presses to the minimum.
