What is the best gaming laptop for Sims 4? To be honest, the game isn’t particularly demanding, so you won’t have to break the bank to play the Sims 4 on a laptop, however back in 2022 EA updated the system requirements inline with graphical improvements brought to the game, so it takes a bit more oomph than it used to, on the higher resolutions at least.

Can I play Sims 4 on my laptop?

The updated recommended specs for playing The Sims 4 on a desktop PC are listed below (avoid the minimum specs as these will usually barely run the game).

Before proceeding though, there is one thing to be aware of: laptop requirements are always higher as laptop components (even if they have the same name as their desktop equivalents) are less powerful. As a result, you’ll want to aim for the SKU above what these requirements suggest in your laptop specs.

We’ve listed some example laptops below that will run the game at different resolutions, catering to different budgets.

  • CPU: Intel Core i5 (4 cores) / AMD Ryzen 5 or better
  • RAM: 8 GB RAM
  • GPU: NVIDIA GTX 650 / AMD Radeon HD 7750 or better (at least 1GB of VRAM)
  • Storage: >51 GB available space
  • Operating System: Windows 10 64-bit

The MSI Thin GF63 has been a staple of our budget gaming laptop pages for several years, and at the time of writing is top of our best gaming laptop under $500 guide.

The Nvidia GTX 1650 dedicated graphics card is an old model, but will do just fine for a game like The Sims 4 at 1080p resolution. Similarly the Intel Core i5-9300H CPU is an oldy but a goldy.

The refresh rate on this machine is capped at 60Hz, which should be absolutely fine for a slow-paced game like The Sims 4, though if you want something a bit more liquid smooth (if you also want to play other games for instance) then look below.

Playing The Sims 4 at 1440p/QHD resolution on maxed-out settings requires much less power than this ASUS ROG Strix G15 Advantage Edition comes packing with, so you could definitely say it represents pretty massive overkill. However – trying to find a QHD laptop with a dedicated GPU for much cheaper is actually not that easy, and this laptop offers such good value for what you get, it’s worth spending a bit more money than you need to to get yourself a laptop that can perform very well on other games at this resolution.

For a fraction of the cost, you essentially get a 165Hz 1440p gaming laptop that can perform as well as an RTX 3070 equipped machine (albeit with inferior Ray-Tracing, though this is unimportant for The Sims 4). It doesn’t have a webcam, but you can always buy this separately.

4K (UHD)

Buying a 4K gaming laptop for the Sims 4 is a bit of a tricky matter. To play the game on this resolution you’ll need some kind of low-end dedicated graphics card at least, but the majority of options available are massively overkill for a game with these requirements. We’ve picked this MSI Creator 17 with RTX 3060 and 120Hz display because it is often on sale for around the $1,500 mark, but you shouldn’t pay much more for it, certainly not for $2,000 or more, as other options are available.

Substantially more powerful (but also significantly more expensive) alternatives (if you want to play more demanding games besides The Sims 4 at 4K) include a refurbished model ASUS Zephyrus S17 with RTX 3080, 144Hz Razer Blade 17 with RTX 3070 Ti or 120Hz MSI Raider with the same GPU- all of which are mighty fine machines.
