2022 looks set to be an incredibly exciting year for LG’s OLED TV series – with two new models featuring the brand’s sort after Evo OLED panel technology. The G2 and C2 models are LG’s most prestigious TV sets in today’s market, but which should you choose?
One features excellent value for money and gaming performance while the other leaves nothing on the table – equipped with all the bells and whistles you could image.

CHECK PRICEOn first glance, specifications for the LG C2 and G2 seem to be relatively similar. Both will feature the latest Evo OLED panel technology, 120Hz refresh rates, LG’s new Alpha 9 Gen 5 processor, and VRR technology.
So, how exactly do these panels differ?
When looking at yesteryear’s C1 vs G1 models, it was clear that the G1 was the more premium offering – boasting the Evo OLED panel. However, the differences in this year’s LG OLED TV models aren’t quite as clear.
Let’s dive into some of the fundamental factors of TV viewing to see what real-world differences we can expect from the C2 vs G2 TVs.
Gaming performance is hugely important for modern TVs as the latest next-gen consoles have the ability to deliver 120Hz gameplay at 4K screen resolution. Fortunately, both these new displays feature fantastic gaming performance.
Like their predecessors, the C2 and G2 offer up all the specifications required for a truly immersive gaming experience – including; VRR technology, 120Hz refresh rates, near instantaneous response times, and a new implemented Game Optimizer menu that allows users to fine-tune the visual experience to their exact requirements.
Console gamers will also be happy to hear that the C2 and G2 will also come with a number of HDMI 2.1 inputs (featuring uncapped 48Gbps bandwidth) – the minimum requirement for 4K @120Hz gameplay. Furthermore, with Sony recently announcing VRR support in their PlayStation 5 consoles, there has been no better time to purchase a VRR ready TV.
Additionally, both G2 and C2 OLED TVs will come equipped with key performance features such as ALLM (auto low latency mode) and HGIG – a setting that adjusts the contrast on-the-fly to better suit the HDR scene you’re viewing.
At this stage, there really isn’t any major differences that separate the C2 and G2 OLED TVs. This round finishes a draw.
It took a while for the official C2 and G2 prices to be unveiled, and it’s easy to see why. The LG C-series went on sale in the UK a couple of weeks ago and consumers were puzzled by the high pricing it came equipped with.
Comparing the C2 to the C1 on launch, the C2 looks to be more expensive across all sizes. The G2 will also feature a premium price tag when compared to the C2 – similar to what we saw in the C1 and G1 models. Furthermore, new C2 sizes mean that prices for the lower end variants are up for debate as far as value is concerned.

We’ve left the US pricing blank for now as no official details have been released. That said, it’s still fairly obvious to see the price increases when comparing European prices of 2022 and 2021 OLED TVs.
While this is annoying, general inflation and improvements made to image and processing power do justify the hike in price.
Regardless, the C2 series still offers a wider range of size options over the G2. C2 wins.
LG recently announced that LG OLED 2022 TV sales would officially go live as of the 23rd of March 2022. Not only does this mean consumers can now head into their local electronics store and pick up a C2 but it also sees a healthy price reduction on the LGs 2021 OLED TV offerings.

One of the big reasons why people choose OLED TVs over more conventional LED alternatives is due to the stunning visual performance they provide. The latest generation of OLED TVs from LG looks set to be the most impressive yet, delivering their brightest panels to date.
The new Evo OLED panels will be deployed in both C2 and G2 models this year, helping to produce additional peak brightness over their predecessors. However, despite both panels featuring the coveted Evo OLED display technology, the G2 will be significantly brighter than the C2.
This is the first real difference that separates the C2 and G2 TVs, with the latter benefitting hugely from what could be deemed a insignificant difference.
The C2 will deliver around 10% higher peak brightness when compared to the 2021 C1 TV, whereas the the G2 will deliver around 30% over the G1. As you can imagine, the additional 20% brightness actually translates to a pretty big difference – especially when viewing the TV in daylight conditions. Don’t be put off by the mere 10% increase from C1 to C2 either – we were hugely impressed by the difference a 100 nits of brightness could make.
The winner here is LG G2.
Both 2022 OLED TV models from LG will deliver exceptional audio quality – both featuring Dolby Atmos, Dolby Digital, Dolby Digital Plus, and Dolby AC-4 support. That said, there is a small difference when comparing the audio quality of the C2 and G2 – and that’s the configuration/wattage they provide.
The C2 will feature a 2.2 40W built-in speaker system whereas the G2 will boast a 4.2 60W system – meaning the latter will be more realistic and louder on average.
Of course, most users will likely utilize their own soundbar with a new OLED TV – providing a much more accurate audible experience overall. That said, if you were planning on using the built in speakers of these TVs, the G2 will offer a superior experience.
G2 wins.
The C2 and G2 look fairly similar to last year’s iterations – both featuring the same slender profile characterized by slim bezels on all four sides. The overall dimensions of the C2 and G2 haven’t change much either, with both still delivering that thin, premium-feeling design.
That said, unlike the G2, the C2 has been designed for more conventional home theatre usage with its own stand. Despite its ability to be mounted on a VESA wall bracket, the C2 doesn’t feature the same ultra-slim design as the G2 – which benefits hugely from its Gallery-esque aesthetic. By contrast, the G2 has been custom-designed for wall-mounting, offering a super-slim profile that suits more scenarios.
LG will also be utilizing more efficient build materials for both the C2 and G2 models this year, aiding in the mounting/general construction process.
The winner is personal preference.
LG’s 2021 OLED TVs were renowned for their features and the same seems to be the case for the brand’s latest 2022 offerings. As we’ve already mentioned, the new 2022 OLED TVs will now feature greater processing power thanks to the arrival of LG’s new Alpha 9 Gen 5 processor.
The new processor found in both C2 and G2 models is said to offer up a three dimensional viewing experience – with deep learning used to detect and enhance individual objects and depth. Additionally, the new processors will also produce more efficient AI upscaling that won’t be prone to the same artifacts found in older iterations. Users will also benefit from a new Dynamic tone-mapping algorithm that helps to create granular enhancements via subdivision of the panel.
More dynamic features are to be expected from this year’s new OLED TV lineup, including Dynamic Vivid mode for the TV’s background Enhancement feature – enabling the TV to more efficiently differentiate between foreground and background imagery.
LG will once again be deploying a plethora of apps in the new OLED 2022 TVs, with Netflix, Amazon Video, Disney+, Apple TV all featuring. Each TV will also support Dolby Vision HDR and Dolby Atmos sound as well – all compatible within the various applications available.
This round is a draw.

Unfortunately, the answer isn’t as simple as the C1 vs G1 debate, with this year’s iterations sharing more similarities than we first expected. Ultimately, the decision comes down to a few core features – with both providing a very good visual experience, respectfully.
The LG G2 will be the brand’s high-end home theatre TV, delivering a much brighter visual experience when compared to the C2. The G2 will also deliver benefits such as; boosted brightness levels, a new gen 5 processor, and a tonne of additional game/video enhancing features for a truly immersive experience. The G2 also features a similar ultra-thin design as last year, making it more appealing to individuals that want mount it on their wall.
By contrast, the C2 will be the brand’s mid-tier all-round TV – featuring the same Evo OLED panel but without the same impressive brightness levels as the premium option. Unlike the G2, the C2 will also cater to the smaller TV market, offering up 48″ and 42″ variants – custom-designed for PC and console gamers. The C2 will also be more reasonably priced, delivering excellent value for money.
