Here’s a detailed review of the Ryzen 5 7600

Is AMD’s Ryzen 5 7600 good for gaming?

In a nutshell: yes – the Ryzen 5 7600 is an excellent gaming processor. If you look at it from a performance-per-dollar standpoint, it’s among your very best options, especially if you’d prefer a processor that’s relatively new as well.

Practically speaking, the Ryzen 5 7600 offers you gaming performance that’s equivalent to many of the more expensive processors out in the market today, but at an entry-level price point.

You’ll be able to pair the 7600 with a high-end GPU, such as an RTX 4080 or a 7900 XT, for seamless 1080p, 1440p, and 4K triple-A gaming. The CPU does have a rather limited amount of threads, so it bottlenecks with the 4090 at lower resolutions.

But as long as you aren’t looking for a CPU to pair up with a 4090, the Ryzen 5 7600 is definitely worth considering.

Great clock speed

Currently, the most important influencer of a processor’s gaming performance is its clock speed. The maximum clock speed, to be more specific.

We see that the Ryzen 5 7600 has a boost clock speed of 5.1GHz, which is a massive 700MHz upgrade over its predecessor, the Ryzen 5 5600.

Even the Ryzen 9 5950X, AMD’s Zen 3 flagship, had a maximum clock speed of 4.9GHz. This just goes to show you how powerful the new Zen 4 processors are. An entry-level Ryzen 5 7600 is able to outmatch an expensive flagship in single-core performance.

Optimal core count

The Ryzen 5 7600 is a 6-core, 12-thread CPU. CPUs these days have absurdly high core counts, which is why 12 threads is somewhat mediocre.

But the thing is, games don’t utilize many threads. The lack of threads hurt the Ryzen 5 7600 in multicore workloads such as video editing and 3D rendering, but we’re talking about gaming exclusively here.

For gaming alone, the 7600’s 12 threads are plenty.

Low TDP

At a meager 65-watt TDP (Thermal Design Power), the Ryzen 5 7600 consumes minimal energy and generates little heat. You won’t need an aftermarket cooler; the included AMD Wraith stock cooler will suffice.

Price efficient

The Ryzen 5 7600 launched at an MSRP of $229, and its price hasn’t changed much since its release. The ~$230 7600 offers you almost identical gaming performance to the ~$320 Core i5-13600K, which itself has pretty decent value.

Final thoughts

If you’re looking for a CPU that lets you experience high-end gaming without you having to break the bank, the Ryzen 5 7600 is definitely one to consider. Its high boost clock is very conducive to high FPS gaming, and it retails for a very affordable price as well. The low power consumption is the cherry on top.
