You take a brief break from clicking heads and look down to find your forearms covered in small granules of faux leather, so you google ‘Why is my gaming chair peeling?’.
Where did that bring you? Back to us. Even if you have an actual genuine leather gaming chair, misuse or good old wear and tear can cause this.
The most common reason for a peeling game and chair is time and time alone. As the leatherette gets old and dries out, the natural friction from your forearms will slowly erode the material.
What can I do if my gaming chair is peeling?
Unfortunately, there aren’t really any quick fixes here. If you’ve bought a faux leather chair, chances are that you won’t be too concerned about reupholstering it because it simply won’t be worth the cost.
However, if you spent big bucks deluxe on a real leather chair, and the leather has worn to fit and started peeling, researching local upholsters might be a good option. Especially if the padding is still holding up well.
How to stop your gaming chair from peeling
If the peeling has only just begun, or you’re hell-bent on saving the chair from further damage, there are some precautions you can take to prolong the inevitable.
The first of which is conditioning the leather. This is not unlike waxing a car, as you build up a protective layer, which can significantly extend the lifespan of the material.
If your chair is genuine leather, then this is something you should be doing from the start, as this sort of damage can’t usually be repaired, only replaced in its entirety, which will obviously cost you an armrest and a chair leg.
Finally, if your chair is beyond saving, we can only recommend you some quality replacements that we are confident will last longer.
