Take-Two CEO confirms more Red Dead Redemption games are planned

Zelnick likens both Grand Theft Auto and Red Dead Redemption to the James Bond film franchise, which recently had its 25th installment with No Time to Die. He wants these IPs to become an enduring franchise that gamers can continue to enjoy for years to come.
Red Dead Redemption is going to become an enduring franchise, according to Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick. Speaking at the Jefferies Virtual Global Interactive Entertainment Conference, Zelnick states that “If it’s really, really great, it will keep going” (as quoted by VGC).
Read Dead Redemption hit the shelves in 2010 and was lauded as an atmospheric romp through the western states in the waning years of the American frontier. The game was particularly praised for its visuals, music, and storytelling and sold over 5 million copies in its first week of release, and attained numerous game of the year accolades from many different news outlets. It was an impressive piece of interactive art and continues to be known as one of the best games of the seventh console generation.
Given the success of Red Dead Redemption, both financially and critically, it came as no surprise when the prequel, Red Dead Redemption 2, was announced in October of 2016. Again the games was received with universal praise and solidified Red Dead Redemption’s position as a tentpole franchise for Rockstar.
When will we get Red Dead Redemption 3?
Of course, the third entry to the series hasn’t been officially announced yet, but if the CEO’s words are anything to go by, we can expect more Red Dead Redemption games to be in the works right now and maybe see the release after whatever the next Grand Theft Auto installment happens to be.
Continuing on, Zelnick says “There are precious few entertainment franchises of any sort that fall into that category, but they do exist. And I think GTA is one of them, I think Red Dead is one of them”. It’s a bold statement but given the success of both of these IPs, this statement certainly holds water as they have no reason, financially at least, to not continue developing more of these games. Of course, they run the risk of burning out the audience’s interest in the series’ if they release new installments too often and the level of quality drops, as is the case with Call of Duty, at least according to some fans.
So there will certainly be more Read Dead Redemption games in the coming years, and more Grand Theft Auto Games too. We already know that Rockstar has faith in these IPs as they have been re-released and ported to all manner of platforms and streaming services. Including the recently-released Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy – The Definitive Edition, which seems to be having no shortage of teething issues.
