With the Soulslike genre being more popular than ever with the insane success of Elden Ring, players have been wondering whether the newest Star Wars game, Star Wars Jedi: Survivor, will be following the same formula as games of the Dark Souls series.

Well, the answer might not be as straightforward as one would expect at first, and we’re here to tell you why.

Is Star Wars Jedi: Survivor a Soulslike?

If you ask us if Star Wars Jedi: Survivor follows the more traditional Soulslike formula, then yes, Jedi: Survivor is indeed like Dark Souls.

By this we mean the gameplay, or the combat specifically, revolves around dodging hits that would otherwise significantly damage you, all the while learning the enemy’s attack pattern to retaliate as soon as you find an opening.

However, that’s pretty much where the similarities between the two series end. Where the Dark Souls games have your character be rather sluggish while moving around, Jedi: Fallen Order and Survivor have the protagonist perform various acrobatic feats such as wall running to traverse the environment.

Something that stops Star Wars Jedi: Survivor from being completely like Dark Souls is the fact that perfectly timing your button inputs to parry or deflect attacks is essential to this specific Star Wars game.

When it comes to the Dark Souls games, however, parrying is completely optional and many players go through their entire playthrough without even learning how to do it.

Finally, if you ask a Dark Souls fan what the one unbreakable rule of a true Soulslike is, chances are they’ll say that the game can’t have the option to adjust its difficulty. Well, lo and behold, Jedi: Survivor, much like its prequel, has the option to pick between four difficulty levels.

What difficulty you go for determines several things such as how aggressive the enemies are, how easy it is to parry attacks, and how much damage you receive when getting hit.
