What is the MacBook Pro Touch Bar? A brief history
Apple introduced the Touch Bar on the MacBook Pro model as a complete redesign of the MacBook Pro in October 2016.
The Touch Bar offered a thin OLED strip, replacing the static function keys above the keyboard. The OLED display stip came with the touch capability; you could use it for adjusting volume, accessing tools in programs, and more. It was an exciting new addition to the Pro-series MacBooks, but saying the public’s reaction was mixed would be an understatement. MacBook Pro users missed the dedicated function key and were irritated by the touch bar.
Apple realized that the user base is divided due to the Touch Bar, and in 2018 they came up with a solution. In 2018 you could get a MacBook with a Touch Bar and one without a Touch Bar. But in 2020, when the first M1 MacBooks were announced, the 13-inch MacBook Pro still had the controversial touch controls.
Finally, Apple dropped the Touch Bar in late 2021 from the 14 and 16-inch MacBook Pros. The tech world jumped to the conclusion that the Touch bar is dead.
