Electronic Arts have announced the six players they deem to be the year’s players. Throughout the 2021 season, six players have stood out the most for EA Sports. These six players are getting a special promotion for the HUT, Hockey Ultimate Team to celebrate the occasion.

Who are the NHL 2022 Team of the Year players?

The six players that got themselves the prestigious reward are as follows:

  • Andrei Vasilevski – This back to back champion over at Tampa Bay Lightning appears for his crucial role in the team’s performance. Vasilevskiy’s key feat of strength, winning the Conn Smythe Trophy as the most valuable player in the 2021 Playoffs, is a testament to his need to enter the list.
  • Victor Hedman – Tampa Bay Lightning’s Swedish alternate captain, Hedman, is widely considered to be one of the best players in his position in the NHL. He is amongst the best scoring defence players through the 2020-2021 season.
  • Adam Fox – Another trophy player makes the list. The 2020-2021 Norris Trophy holder joins Bobby Orr as the only two players in NHL history to win the award before their third NHL season.
  • Mikko Rantanen – The Finnish star is one of the most efficient players in the sport, averaging more than a point per game (6th overall in 2020-2021). This performance is enough to lead his team and become their best scoring player of the season.
  • Connor McDavid – Edmonton Oilers’ captain Connor McDavid is one of only two unanimous Hart Trophy (MVP) winners in league history, joining Wayne Gretsky. Combine this with McDavid’s lead on points last season, resulting in him winning the Art Ross Trophy and the Ted Lindsay Award, which grants him a bye into this list as far as EA are concerned.
  • Brad Marchand – The NHL’s First All-Star Team for the 2021 season features Marchand as the go-to left-winger. This is the second time Marchand makes his way to the All-Star team in his career. This, of course, isn’t even stating the reason he got there. In the 2020-2021 season, Marchand led the Bruins in goals, assists, and points, resulting in him being only slightly behind Connor McDavid, another member of this list.

To celebrate these six players, EA Sports is running an event.  Each of these players is getting a special Team of the Year HUT icon that matches their highest rating. These icons are only available through HUT packs or completing sets through to January 7.

This is not the only end of the year event EA Sports is running, with FIFA 22 currently undergoing a Headliners event.
