Looking for a PS5 hack? PS5 homebrew and piracy could be starting their first-ever baby steps into existence. PlayStation hacking group failOverflow has worked out how to get into the PS5’s root keys, with individual addresses for each console. The group behind the infamous PS3 crack is back in action again, with the future potential for PS5 jailbreaking software to come into play.

As first reported by VGC, the PlayStation hacker group has worked out how to break into the console’s firmware and locate their root keys. The start of any future PS5 homebrew hacking and homebrew machines could be here within the next year or two if they choose to go that route.

Is PS5 Homebrew coming soon?

While the hack doesn’t necessarily mean much at the moment, it has implications for the future of the console. Now that the group has cracked the console’s firmware, they can work out how to reverse engineer it. If they are that committed, they can create the first PS5 homebrews, potentially adding in custom software never meant for the PS5. It could mean we are on our way to getting modified consoles, like what we used to see when PS2s got chipped, or when the Xbox 360s got JTAGs.

However, the group never goes too far with their hacks. It means the PS5 is likely safe from harm for now. We do wonder if Sony is already contacting them now to patch in and prevent any further vulnerabilities?

Can you jailbreak the PS5, piracy imminent?

The biggest threat to the rootkit becoming available is the potential for piracy. Having access to the rootkit and firmware can become jailbreak, meaning consoles can become modified to read pirated PS5 titles. As you can imagine, it is highly illegal and is a major threat to the console, Sony and any developers who release their game on the platform.

They tend to tweet when they figure something out, but they never reveal their exploits to prevent any misuse from occurring beyond their group.
