Jagex and Steamforged games have announced that RuneScape is getting a TTRPG and board game adaptation. Steamforged Games is one of the leading board game and TTRPG game-making experiences and plan to bring RuneScape to TTRPG in 2022. On the other hand, the board game will instead spend some time building momentum with a Kickstarter campaign.
The RuneScape TTRPG will feature its own hardback rule set, along with rules and other interesting features. The full 21 years of history is open to exploration on the new TTRPG, featuring all the world’s biomes and other elements of Geilnor we have seen through the years.
According to Steamforged Games, those who play will find they can expect to do things players of both OSRS and RS3 can do. Examples of this include drawing upon the characters in the game, adventures, quests, cooking, crafting, and combat familiar in the game(s).
For those who love other elements of TTRPG culture, the RuneScape TTRPG experience is full compatible with DnD’s 5th edition rules. So, if you wanted to port in your characters from another world, then you can do so. There are many homebrewed settings that this campaign can feature.
The press release for the new Runescape TTRPG also featured quotes from those involved. Phil Mansell, the CEO of Jagex said: “After more than 21 years of being exclusively available digitally, it’s extremely exciting to be collaborating with Steamforged to create and deliver new RuneScape role-playing adventures to tabletop gamers. By launching the board game via a crowdfunding platform, Steamforged is mirroring our approach of involving the RuneScape communities in taking the game to tabletop. Given Steamforged’s experience and expertise in transforming video game experiences to tabletop, I’m sure that both RuneScape and Old School RuneScape players will be excited to get their hands on the planned miniatures to create their own adventures with other ’Scapers and board gamers”
