Nightdive Studios have announced in a statement on March 14th that the System Shock remake was delayed. This moved the PC release date to the 30th of May 2023.
“We had hoped to bring the game to market by the end of March, but that turned out to be just beyond our reach; we are after all merely human (unlike Shodan!),” the developers remarked in the statement on a Steam post.

As for PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S, the remake will release on consoles in “due course”, however no word on a confirmed console date as of yet.
PC players can experience all this and more come the summer, complete with a new graphics and plenty of other up-to-date changes. The remake “combines the gameplay of the iconic original game with all-new HD visuals, updated controls, an overhauled interface and all-new sounds and music.”
The remake of the original 1994 sci-fi adventure game has had some turbulence within development. In 2017, Nightdive switched engines to Unreal, however in just a year, the studio “refocused” the remake’s development. Talks with potential publishers fell through and the project had to be re-evaluated.
Despite this, the remake seems now to be flourishing, being both faithful and equally refreshing at the same time. Earlier this year, we were presented with a look at the remake’s take on the dismemberment system for enemies.
The System Shock is not too far away, and fans can already pre-order the game on Steam, GOG, and the Epic Games Store (£35/$40/€40), and we’re sure retailers like Amazon and Best Buy will have options soon.
In the meantime, play the demo which is available right now and experience it first hand. SHODAN commands it.
