If you’re looking for the Witcher 3 laptop requirements, look no further. Buying a laptop that can run Witcher 3 on Ultra settings isn’t too difficult these days: whilst the game was fairly demanding when it came out and not well optimized, it is now over 6 years old, so is no longer the benchmark against which machines are pitted to test their metal.
The Witcher 3 next gen update, released on December 13th-14th, can increase the upper-end demands on your system if you enable the Ray-Tracing modes, but if you select Performance mode it will actually reduce the requirements somewhat, through squeezing higher frames (and therefore a smoother experience) out of the same hardware.
If you want to know if Witcher 3 laptop gaming is feasible on your current machine, or want to buy a brand new gaming laptop to run the Witcher 3 next gen update on, we’ve gathered all the information you need to know below.

Witcher 3 next gen update recommended specifications (desktop)
The below are the updated recommended specs for The Witcher 3 next gen update, as provided by CD Projekt Red. These specs relate to desktop PCs, which have more powerful CPUs and particularly GPUs compared to laptops, therefore you’ll always want to go the SKU above on a laptop for the equivalent performance. For more detail on the desktop requirements, have a read of our Witcher 3 next gen update system requirements page.
We’ve only provided the recommended specs, as minimum spec system requirements tend to only just be able to play a game, and not in any state that’s actually fun, so you want to get as close to the recommended specs as possible.
We’ve extrapolated these out to suggest different laptops that will be able to play the game at different resolutions and settings below.

Best gaming laptop to run Witcher 3 next gen update at 1080p (without Ray Tracing)
If you want to play Witcher 3 on a laptop and generate high FPS at 1080p on the highest graphical settings, then the ASUS ROG Strix G15 Advantage Edition is well worth considering. This all-AMD gaming laptop has the best FPS generation for the money of any of the gaming laptops for under $1,500, and has the option for a 1080p 300Hz screen – not really necessary on a game like the Witcher 3, but definitely a great addition if you’re doing some fast-paced competitive FPS gaming on the side.
That being said, if you’re looking to make the most out of the new Ray-Tracing features of the next gen update, you’ll probably want to go for an Nvidia GPU instead, in which case, see our Ray Tracing pick below.

This Legion 5 gaming laptop has the power needed in its Nvidia RTX 3070 Ti graphics card to really push that Ray-Tracing performance whilst still playing at a relatively smooth FPS. The AMD Ryzen 7 6800H CPU is pretty damn tasty as well, and also means this Lenovo machine has superior battery life.

Best gaming laptop to run Witcher 3 next gen update at 1440p
If you want to play Witcher 3 at 1440p / QHD with decent Frame Per Second then you’ll need a gaming laptop with a bit more power to it, not to mention an actual 1440p screen to play it on. If you’re looking you want to push the latest Ray Tracing and other graphical settings to the max, as introduced in the Witcher next gen update, we’d suggest opting for the Nvidia RTX 3070 specced version of the XMG Neo 15 E21 (in Europe) / Eluktronics MECH-15 G3 (in the US), which is one of the most powerful RTX 3070 gaming laptops available, competing with many RTX 3080 machines even, and has a 165Hz 1440p display. If, again you don’t mind playing the game on low-medium settings at 1440p, have a gander at some cheaper options available in our best gaming laptop under $1,500 list.

Best gaming laptop to run Witcher 3 next gen update at 4K
To get consistent FPS above 100 at 4K resolution isn’t easy on any kind of moderately demanding game, and the Witcher 3 is no exception, particularly if you’re switching on the latest Ray-Tracing features. As a result, the best 4K gaming laptop currently available is the 17-inch ASUS Zephyrus S17 with RTX 3080 and a 120Hz 4K display, and it’s not cheap. Getting any kind of 4K display that runs above 60Hz isn’t going to be cheap sadly. If you don’t mind getting a 15-inch 4K laptop (though it’s generally a bit pointless in our eyes having such high resolution on this size screen), then also consider this MSI Raider, which also runs at 120Hz.
