After AM5’s release, we saw the temperatures and power skyrocket. This did set some people back, especially with the higher costs associated with the platform. So what is the best PSU for Ryzen 9 7900?
Although the non-X SKUs have now brought down many of those drawbacks. And so comparing the 7900 vs 7900X we see the power rating drop by 105W.
This is a big drop and temperatures are more manageable but looking at power, CPUs aren’t the biggest consumer. And in fact, it’s the graphics card that will be the main dictator of that. But there is some significance to it so it needs to be considered.
What is the Ryzen 9 7900 TDP?
The 7900X had a TDP of 170W, so there is in fact a significant drop in the power rating of the newer processor. Now the 7900 has a TDP of 65W and is much more manageable.
This lower rating will require even less power to sustain it and less affected on the system. Whilst also requiring less cooling, as well as less impact on what power supply to power the whole build.
Do I need a new power supply for Ryzen 9 7900?
If you already have one PSU lying around it would be best to reuse it if possible. This will save you money and have to get rid of equipment. So you don’t need a new power supply if you already have one.
Although you have to make sure it still satisfies what you need. As it needs to have the wattage to satisfy your new build. While it still has the features you need and is still functioning well and up to snuff. So you can rely on it to keep powering your build.
