If this is your first time using the VIVE XR Elite, you may be wondering “do I need a TV to use VIVE XR Elite?”. It’s quite a valid question as many VR headsets require a screen not necessarily to use, but at least to set up, the PSVR 2 being the most recent example. However, the PSVR 2, or indeed any console VR experience won’t be truly standalone, like the Vive XR Elite.

So, no, you don’t need a TV to use the Vive XR Elite. Everything is done in-headset, however, there is more to this questions than that.

Do I need a TV to use VIVE XR Elite?

Again, no. You do not need a TV to use VIVE XR Elite. It is a standalone VR headset that does not require any base stations to work. You can simply put on your headset and use it in the following three ways:

  1. Start PC VR streaming: Install the VIVE Streaming app on your PC and connect your headset to get started.
  2. Use VR from your phone: Install the VIVE Manager app on your phone and dive into VR.
  3. Ease into VR directly: Just put on your headset and get started.

You don’t really need a TV to connect your XR Elite headset. However, you can still connect to a TV by mirroring your PC or mobile screen on your TV. To do so, you will need to mirror your compatible Android smartphone to a TV.

But a TV is not really required for your VIVE XR Elite to work. It is a standalone headset like Oculus Quest 2 that allows you to play games without a screen or a PC.

But if you wish to enjoy PC VR content, you can stream the content over Wi-Fi or connect your headset to your PC via USB-C to do so.
