The top-of-the-line Radeon RX 7900 XT and RX 7900 XTX are among the new graphics cards. These products include eye-catching specifications that guarantee top-tier performance. So how does the RX 7900 XT vs RTX 4090 compare?

Beginning on December 13, the new GPUs will be accessible. Bringing forth the new AMD RDNA 3 architecture to compete against what Nvidia already has to offer. As the RTX 4090 was released in October 2022.

They were priced aggressively, which caused Team Red to gain ground in the performance-per-dollar statistic. A top-tier GPU in the RX 7000 series of video cards is the RX 7900 XT. The higher-end RX 7900 XTX and the graphics card share the same Navi 31 graphics processor.

Whilst the RTX 4090 is based on the new Ada architecture. Improving from the Ampere previously by up to 2x. With a move back to TSMC.

Whilst RDNA 3 is improving with a cut down in the foundry to 5 and 6nm. Whilst also moving to an MCD design with multiple processor dies.

Additionally, Team Red has improved its architecture to outperform the opposition in terms of power efficiency. Improving the performance per Watt of the previous generation saves you money on your electricity.

Total board power

The total board power (TBP) is the maximum amount of energy the card can use. This is how much electrical power it can utilize at maximum utilization.

The RX 7900 XT has a 300 W rating. Whilst the 4090 has a rating of 450W, so with a 150W lower rating, it can save plenty of power over the long term. But this does usually come with a lower performance.

The graphics card also does not need any unique power connectors or adapters, unlike the RTX 4090, because of the lower power demand. This is a particularly advantageous feature in light of the fact that the 4090 users have reported numerous troubles on forums.

Price

At $899, the graphics card is likewise reasonably priced. Whilst the RTX 4090 is priced at $1,599, with a $700 difference there is a lot to think about between them and see if you need to spend all that extra.

Performance

The 7900 XT will be slower than the RTX 4090. However, AMD’s key selling points are a significantly lower price point and a more power-efficient design. With the upcoming RX 7000 series graphics cards, Team Red will bring numerous novel innovations.

AMD compares it more to the RTX 4080 in terms of performance. The actual benchmarks are not expected until the launch of the cards on the 13th of December.

Technologies

Their improved temporal upscaling technology, FSR 2, is on the list. The forthcoming version will use the same frame creation strategy as DLSS 3. In order to maximize framerates, AMD will also debut HYPR-RX, a feature that enables one-click optimization, incorporating FSR and Radeon Anti-Lag technology.

The graphics card may make use of SmartAcess video to split the video encoding and decoding responsibilities when connected with AMD Ryzen CPUs. Creative tools like Adobe Premiere Pro, DaVinci Resolve, Open Broadcasting Software (OBS), and others will drastically reduce the time needed for video rendering.

Is the 7900 XT worth it over the 4090?

The Radeon RX 7900 XT is slower than the RTX 4090. However, Team Red has a number of advantages that make the card a profitable option for high-end gamers seeking a 4K GPU.

Especially with a greater value proposition with the performance it offers. Focused on gamers it has much improved its drivers and software so it is a good option if you don’t need all the extra stuff.
