Well, with an iGPU (Integrated GPU), you can forego the need for a dedicated GPU. An iGPU is built onto the CPU die. But not all processors have one. In this article, we find out: Does the Intel i9 series have integrated graphics?

The good news is that all of Intel’s Core CPUs have integrated graphics, so you won’t need a dedicated GPU to get a display on your monitor. There’s just one exception, though, and that’s the “F” edition processors.

F edition CPUs are identical to their original model in other ways; they just don’t have an iGPU as the original does. Naturally, F-edition CPUs are slightly cheaper.
Now, let’s talk about Core i9 specifically. The same rules apply. The 13th-generation Core i9 desktop processors, for example, are available in the following variants.
- Core i9-13900 (Default)
- Core i9-13900F (No iGPU)
- Core i9-13900K (Unlocked)
- Core i9-13900KF (Unlocked, no iGPU)
- Core i9-13900KS (Unlocked, special edition)
As you can see, two of these variants do not have integrated graphics, whereas the rest do.
How good are Intel’s integrated graphics?
Integrated graphics are pretty lackluster in terms of performance. They’re only meant to be used as a backup option to at least be able to get a display in case something goes wrong with the primary GPU or for graphically undemanding activities such as office work or casual PC usage.
Unfortunately, you can’t game on integrated graphics, at least not with the ones you’ll find on Intel’s CPUs. AMD’s Vega Graphics are far better than Intel’s and let you game at 720p 60FPS or 1080p 30FPS, which is still far below what you should be aiming for to enjoy a comfortable gaming experience.
If you’re playing older games or ones that aren’t heavily reliant on 3D graphics, you may be able to achieve 60FPS with an iGPU.
Do I need an iGPU?
With a Core i9, you don’t need an iGPU unless you intend to use it as a workstation processor. If you’re getting a Core i9 for gaming, you will of course be pairing it up with a high-end GPU. Otherwise, your processor’s resources would be going to waste.
Even if you intend to use your Core i9 for purposes other than gaming, it would probably be best to get a dedicated GPU anyway. Integrated graphics can’t do much for you, so if you ever end up needing some graphic-intensive work carried out, you’d have nothing to rely on.
You can save some money by opting for the F edition processors. The difference is pretty minor though, so if you can’t find an F edition CPU, I recommend simply going with the default model.

To summarize, all Intel Core CPUs have integrated graphics. It’s only the F edition CPUs that don’t. Integrated graphics are extremely weak, to the point where they can’t run most games at all. You probably don’t need a CPU with integrated graphics since it’s best to get a dedicated GPU anyway, so consider going for an F-edition processor to save some money.
