The developers of the game list the Intel Core i7 2.8GHz and the AMD Ryzen 7 as the officially recommended processors. 

Now, they haven’t mentioned a particular processor or even a generation, but they did state the need for a 2.8GHz clock speed.

Interestingly, even the weakest Core i7 and Ryzen 7 desktop processors have core clocks well above 3GHz. It’s the laptop processors that usually have lower clock speeds. 

Based on in-game performance, we feel that the CPU specs recommended by the devs are a bit off. Dune: Spice Wars seems to be one of those games that run primarily on a single thread.

You’ll see better in-game performance running on a CPU with a higher boost clock speed, even if it has fewer cores and threads.

With the above in mind, we believe that the best CPU for Dune: Spice Wars is the Ryzen 5 7600X. 

The 7600X is a mid-range processor belonging to the Zen 4 lineup that first launched in Q4 2022. It has a very ordinary 6 cores and 12 threads. However, as we discussed earlier, that won’t be a problem with Spice Wars since the game is much more single-thread reliant.

In fact, almost all current tiles will run perfectly fine on 12 threads. Games, in general, tend to not utilize numerous threads. Increasing thread count beyond a certain point often doesn’t really improve practical performance beyond increasing the processor’s bottleneck threshold

The reason we’re choosing the Ryzen 5 7600X here is primarily because of the processor’s extraordinary boost clock. A 7600X possesses a remarkable 5.3GHz boost clock speed, which allows it to offer the best single-thread performance in its price range. 

The CPU’s best-in-class single-thread performance and high 32MB L3 cache combine to deliver gaming performance that’s almost identical to processors belonging to much more advanced and expensive lineups. 

Speaking of price, the 7600X is a relatively affordable processor. It launched at an MSRP of $299, but you can find it for closer to $250 today – or even lower.

While the CPU itself is now reasonably priced, you’ll have to turn up a hefty sum to buy a new AM5 motherboard and DDR5 memory. Unfortunately, Zen 4 processors do not support the older AM4 socket motherboards or DDR4 memory, meaning there is a one-time upgrade cost existing users have to incur.

But ultimately – for Dune: Spice Wars, for many other games like it, and even for the more computationally demanding Triple-A titles of today, you’ll find the Ryzen 5 7600X an excellent pick.
