There has been a number of new OLED monitors announced at the start of 2024, so the time has come to compare 32″ Samsung Odyssey OLED G8 vs Alienware AW3225QF as these impressive 4K OLEDs look to be a step up from what currently occupies the market (not to be confused with the 34″ OLED G8 ultrawide! Comparing the specs, price, and gaming performance gives us much to talk about. Overall, they’re relatively similar, targeting the same 32″ 4K OLED niche, but these 4K models have some differences to think about. There’s no doubt that these two belong in the discussion of the best 4K gaming monitors, but which one do we think is best? Let’s jump straight into the details.

Alienware are using the Samsung’s very own third-gen QD-OLED panel for the AW3225QF, so you expect the quality to be just as good. OLED panel technology allows for accurate colors that look lifelike due to the infinite contrast, deep blacks, and per-pixel lighting. The AW3225QF boasts a wide color gamut rated for DCI-P3 99%, and we expect the OLED G8 to be very much the same. They both feature a large 32″ panel at full 4K resolution, but Alienware’s pick here has a subtle 1700R curvature to help keep you a little more immersed, though not everything likes a curved monitor.
Gaming specs are just as impressive with a rapid 0.03ms GTG response time and and fast 240Hz refresh rate. Do note that HDMI 2.1 & DisplayPort 1.4 only manage full 240Hz via DSC (Display Stream Compression), though this is ‘virtually lossless’ and unnoticeable for most. If you’re interested in the debate between matte vs glossy, then both the OLED G8 and AW3225QF have some form of anti-reflection/glare-free coating, so they’re not completely glossy.
One area where the OLED G8 takes the advantage is VRR implementation, as it is supported by AMD’s best FreeSync Premium Pro package, whereas Alienware have to settle for pretty basic G-Sync compatibility and Adaptive Sync. So, the OLED G8 should deal with screen tearing and stutters better. Samsung will also be including some smart features such as Multi Control and their SmartThings Hub. The former allows for seamless connectivity with other Samsung devices to transfer images/text easily using their mouse and keyboard, the latter allowing you to control smart home devices compatible with Matter and HCA. This makes the G8 much more than just a gaming monitor, especially with Samsung’s Smart TV and Gaming Hub platforms integrated as well.
Concerning the price of these two, we’re yet to know what exactly the 32″ Samsung Odyssey OLED G8 will cost. However, since the Alienware AW3225QF is already available, we can see that it has a price tag of $1,199.99. When it comes to predicting the price of the OLED G8, we can take a look at a few factors.
We fully expect it to be a higher price than the AW3225QF given the integrated smart features on top of similar specs. Previously, both the 32″ 4K Neo G8 and 34″ ultrawide OLED G8 launched at $1,499 and we could see a similar price for the new 32″ edition. Last year we saw the OLED G9 launch with a couple of different models – one with and one without the smart features. For the extra smart features you could be paying about $200 extra, so we definitely see the AW3225QF being better value for money here if you’re not interested in using your monitor as a TV.
OLED panels are seen as close to perfect for gaming thanks to excellent responsiveness, stunning color accuracy, and potential for high refresh rates. The QD-OLED panels here also offer a little extra brightness boost due to intertwined Quantum Dot technology. No matter which of these two you pick, the gaming performance will be hard to beat.
If you’re going to be gaming on one of these displays, then you definitely want to have a powerful gaming PC backing it up. Unlocking the full potential of 4K at 240Hz is not going to be possible in every single game, but it gives you plenty of headroom going forward. You can still make the most of the high refresh rate though if you get plenty of frames per second when gaming at 4K, as VRR tech can kick in any ensure smooth visuals regardless.
We would recommend 32″ 4K gaming monitors for immersive or more casual games, rather than something hyper-competitive, especially with the curved panel of the AW3225QF. These also double up as being great for productivity. The OLED G8 does have some extra functionality for gaming due to the integrated Samsung Gaming Hub, allowing you to stream games directly to the display – partnered with Xbox, Nvidia GeForce Now, and more for cloud gaming.
There are few things to consider if you’re deciding between Samsung’s OLED G8 and Alienware’s AW3225QF. While they do share many of the same specs, there are some key differences – especially for features and overall design. They’re both visually appealing monitors, but we tend to like the build quality of the iconic Alienware design, and user feedback would suggest that Dell/Alienware are the better brand in terms of reliability and quality control.
If you’re looking for the best immersion, we’d also suggest the Alienware display given the subtle curve which isn’t overbearing. Both monitors feature customizable lighting via AlienFX and Samsung’s Core Lighting+ for the back panel and come in a sleek white design – the AW3225QF sticking to their iconic V-shaped stand, while the OLED G8 having a more compact flat base. Both monitors offer a great level of adjustability and plenty of connectivity for USB peripherals. We suspect that most users won’t make the most of the OLED G8’s smart features, making the AW3225QF the much more appealing choice in our eyes in terms of value for money.
Thanks to the high 4K resolution and large 32″ screen, we would say that both the Samsung Odyssey OLED G8 and Alienware AW3225QF are great for productivity in many cases. For creative workflows, OLED panels offer excellent color accuracy and contrast ratios, boasting infinite contrast due to perfect blacks with per-pixel lighting and 99% DCI-P3 color gamut coverage. One downside for OLEDs though is the brightness levels comparative to traditionally-backlit displays, if you like a particularly bright screen. IPS monitors still remain popular for editors due to this, and some users do report some color fringing that makes small text hard to read on an OLED panel. Burn-in can become an issue for productivity if you’re leaving a static image or window on screen for the majority of the day as well; burn-in prevention tech is in place though to help counteract this though.
