The original Radeon RDNA 3 GPUs from AMD are some of the greatest graphics cards currently available. The RX 7900 XTX and RX 7900 XT are excellent 4K GPUs, and the XTX model is significantly more affordable than Nvidia’s rival RTX 4080, demonstrating what AMD’s other RX 7000 GPUs may be able to do in the future. In spite of this, AMD’s most recent GPUs lag behind Team Green in a few benchmarks, and despite improvements, their ray tracing still didn’t match.

The RX 7900 XTX and XT still fall short of Nvidia despite AMD’s improvements to ray tracing in this generation. The RX 7900 XTX is comparable to the RTX 4080 in terms of performance without ray tracing, but the XT model outperforms the RTX 3090 by a sizable 20% margin. The generational statistics, however, continue to be between 25% and 30% for the RX 7900 XTX and roughly 15% for the RX 7900 XT.

Like the last generation, ray tracing is no longer a shortcoming but still lags behind Nvidia’s most recent, fiercest GPUs. The 7900 XT’s ray tracing is comparable to the 3090’s but falls short of the RTX 40-series.

A pair of AI accelerators were added to each compute unit; these will likely be used when FSR 3.0 launches in 2024; the Infinity Cache was tuned for improved performance; and AMD unveiled a new “Radiance Display Engine” that supports HDMI 2.1a, USB-C, and DisplayPort 2.1. AMD also overhauled RDNA 3’s ray tracing capabilities to offer up to 50% more performance in those cutting-edge lighting effects.

Despite the fact that all of these upscaling technologies appear fantastic in practice. Though F1 22 uses the easier FSR 1.0 upscaling, the consequence is a more shimmering image at 1440p resolution. However, FSR 2.0 will shortly be included. What will Radeon GPUs lack, specifically? DLSS 3 Frame Generation is an incredible technical feat that, despite its infancy, is already a potent weapon in Nvidia’s inventory. It can be a tremendous help if you’re trying to power a high-refresh-rate 4K monitor because AMD has no responsibility for it.
