The Ryzen 9 5900X is among the best performers of the CPUs that came with AMD’s prior version of Ryzen processors, the 5000 Series. So what GPU bottlenecks Ryzen 9 5900X?
The Ryzen 5000 CPUs brought competition back to Intel and offered outstanding performance across all areas for a highly affordable price.
The Zen 3 Vermeer CPU is made with TSMCs 7nm process. So it has 4.15 billion transistors in the 81mm² die size. The CPU is able to turbo up to 4.8GHz with a normal clock of 3.7 GHz. All in a 105W TDP package.
As a top-spec CPU, the 5900X has a lot of power as the initial flagship of the lineup. This means pairing it with a lower-end, entry-level GPU will hold back what it is capable of achieving.
So there is a good matchup to be made by pairing up the right two choices on the same level. But for now, we look to what can hold back the abilities of the CPU.

So the RTX 3060 Ti is on that level. As one of the popular choices of the Ampere lineup, it is more aimed at 1080p whilst pushing for 1440p gaming.
From the Radeon side, the RX 6600 XT is on the same level. Both cards are greatly capable of performing well on their own but will hold back the more powerful CPU options.
That means anything lower-end will not be good enough either. And pairing up something like the RTX 3050 or RX 6500 XT with a high-end CPU doesn’t make sense in its own right and most of the time it’s better the other way around.
So those GPUs are better suited for something like the 7600X. This means you have to pair up your components well and find which suit each other.

To match the performance of the top-end CPU you need a great GPU as well. And so with that in mind we recommend the top spec of older cards. Such as the RX 6950 XT or RTX 3090. With that generation matching up the power and age of the CPU so can work well together.
Whilst if you consider something newer, the RTX 4090 or RX 7900 XTX are both good options. With a great performance from them, it will come down as to how much you want to pay to get that framerate.
