Wondering what GPU has PCIe 5.0? Then you’re in the right place. It may have been around for years, but not everything is coming with straight support for it. We saw its first release with AMD’s AM5 platform, there was the availability of PCIe Gen 5 for both the graphics cards and SSDs. The support does provide a good future-proof choice for when the cards come, but for now, you may be waiting yet unless you opt for something different.
As the new RDNA 3 cards came out though, there was no mention of the new spec. The RX 7900 XTX and XT cards were a long time coming with good competition to what Nvidia had on offer. The cards are still on the older PCIe 4.0 connector, with the likelihood being that they cannot still utilize the full bandwidth of it. But that does mean the motherboards are more future-proof if the next-gen cards use them.
For now, though there are some PCIe gen 5 SSDs you can utilize. This spec also applies to storage which has adopted the spec a lot sooner for even faster and hotter products, even if optimizations and load times might not feel too much better right now. Although there are some others out there pushing what’s available and the specs they use.

PCIe 5.0 specification
PCIe is the peripheral component interconnect express. As the high-speed bus, it connects add-in boards to the motherboard at much faster speeds. Some of the possible additions are graphics cards, sound cards, SSDs, or WiFi cards. All probably won’t need the full speed but can benefit from it eventually, especially GPUs and SSD mounts.
As the generation of PCIe increases, their throughput doubles. With the different sizes depending on what is using it. So we see the x1 length have a speed of 1.969 GB/s, x2 3.938, x4 7.877, x8 15.754 and x16 of 31.508 GB/s. This means gen 5 increases to 3.938 GB/s, 7.877, 15.754, 31.508, and 63.015 GB/s. A large increase allows even more graphical data to be transferred. While this spec has been around since 2019, it does take time for it to be adopted in consumer hardware, so we wait and see when it is implemented into GPUs.
First consumer PCIe 5.0 GPU – Moore Threads MTT S80
Now if you’re really looking for something to support PCIe 5.0 graphics card slot you have to look to China’s own manufacturer and the Moore Threads MTT S80. LTT has been able to get hands-on with it and you can see the performance of the card as it is hard to acquire out of the country. There we see the rest of the specs available too. With 4,096 MUSA cores, clocked in at 1.8 GHz. It also features 16GB of GDDR6 memory across a 256-bit bus. Giving it a bandwidth of 448 GB/s with a power consumption of 255W.
It boasts an FP32 performance of 14.4 TFLOPS, which puts it in between the RTX 3060 and RTX 3060 Ti. But even then it struggles to game across the board with not a lot of support, with a tally of only about 22 games that are supported. So it doesn’t actually require the use of the PCIe 5 connector as it doesn’t even fulfill a PCIe 4 connector.
Is there a PCIe 5.0 GPU?
There is only the Chinese domestic GPU that features the PCIe 5.0 connector. The Moore Threads MTT S80 has the connector on it. However, it is unavailable to buy outside the country and its performance is lacking. With support for only a handful of motherboards and games, it works. But as of yet, Nvidia, AMD, or Intel have yet to come out with a card that features the interface.
Is PCIe 5 worth it for gaming?
No, as of yet PCIe 5 is not really worth it for PC gaming, both in terms of GPUs or storage. Current options are plenty fast with the newer option hardly available as of yet. They don’t even offer that noticeable of a difference in transfer rates and FPS is still high without it.
What is the difference between PCIe 5.0 and 4.0 GPU?
The difference between PCIe 5.0 and 4.0 on a GPU will be the potential bandwidth available to the cards. On the full x16 slot, a Gen 4 has a speed of 31.508 GB/s, whilst a Gen 5 connector would increase that to 63.015 GB/s. This allows for more data to pass through, allowing for bigger resolutions and higher speeds even in your storage devices not just video cards.
