The AMD Ryzen 5 5600X3D is also facing discontinuation, following the recent stock shortages of the Ryzen 7 5800X3D in several EU regions.

After months of price surges, the Ryzen 7 5800X3D recently became unavailable at multiple retailers in the EU, particularly in Germany and Austria. Now, the Ryzen 5 5600X3D has also joined it, disappearing from the US market as well. MicroCenter, the exclusive seller of the Ryzen 5 5600X3D in the US, has confirmed that the processor is no longer available in US markets and has been discontinued. This trend of rising prices seems to have plagued AMD’s X3D lineup, with the Ryzen 7800X3D already facing price hikes in recent months. Speculations indicate that this trend isn’t due to a shortage but rather a planned inventory cleanup by AMD for its upcoming products.

The Ryzen 7 5800X3D was a game-changer for AMD, taking the company to new heights in gaming – with the 7800X3D solidified that status. Unfortunately, both CPUs (5800X3D & 5600X) have now been discontinued following the price hikes for the past few months. On top of that, the twelve-core Ryzen 9 7900X3D has also seen a price surge of around 50 euros since the end of September, now sitting at approximately 450 euros, putting it in direct competition with the 7800X3D. Meanwhile, the flagship Ryzen 9 7950X3D has increased by about 45 euros and currently starts at around 585 euros.

AMD is clearing off the shelves for the upcoming Ryzen 9 9800X3D

AMD is set to announce its Ryzen 9000X3D series soon, starting with the 9800X3D, followed by the 9950X3D and 9900X3D. There are also rumors of a 6-core variant coming, similar to what we’ve seen with past Zen 4 and Zen 3 launches. With the discontinuation of CPUs like Ryzen 7 5800X3D, switching to the AM5 platform seems like the best possible move to access the latest gaming performance. Since the Ryzen 7 5700X3D is now the only option available for $200, sticking with AM4 by the end of 2024 will only get about 90% of the performance previously offered.

AMD’s decision to phase out older top models is a common strategy that we have seen with other big companies like Apple, pushing consumers to adopt newer technologies. As the new 9000X3D CPUs are released, AMD will likely discontinue models like the Ryzen 7 7800X3D, Ryzen 9 7900X3D, and Ryzen 9 7950X3D to focus on the latest offerings.
