Fan mod Dark Souls Nightfall adds new story, characters and bosses
This new fan-made project aims to create a brand new Dark Souls experience!
Telling you that Dark Souls is one of the most well-beloved games of all time might not come as a surprise. Granted, endless amounts of players have surely thrown controllers, screamed in frustration or seethed silently whilst playing. But I can’t think of another game that feels so rewarding when you finally make it past that one area, or deal that final killing blow, or when you retrieve the souls you thought you’d lost. Although Dark Souls has a reputation for being one of the most challenging games, so much so, many other games have taken inspiration from it. It has still gone down in gaming history as a fantastic experience.
Then there’s also the massive and active fanbase Dark Souls has. With creators of all types working on various Dark Souls related projects. That includes mods! The Dark Souls community have an active modbase, sharing various cosmetic or performance changes on Nexus. But perhaps the most popular are the fan-made expansions for the game. Some of the most popular mods were, the Daughters of Ash mod, made in 2019.
The Daughters of Ash was a massive re-imagining and expansion of Dark Souls. It featured new bosses, enemies, characters, storylines, weapons, and items, expanded lore, and many new secrets. It offered both modified and brand new content, much of which cannot be discovered in one play-through. The Daughters of Ash mod was created by Scott Mooney, also known as ‘Grim‘ or ‘Grimrukh‘.
Dark Souls Nightfall
Well, Grim is back again. After his successful Daughter of Ash mod, he’s been working on a new giant Dark Souls mod. Nightfall is a direct fan-made sequel to the original Dark Souls. With a new story, new characters and bosses, new world map and more. Grim has said: ‘It’s basically a brand new Souls game built using the Dark Souls engine and assets. Combat will be faster-paced, against a mixture of familiar and unfamiliar foes, with brand new voiced NPCs and side-quests.‘
Grim has even shown off the first 18 minutes, to give players an even better idea of what to expect:
Grim is working alongside other creatives, including: AinTunez, Meowmaritus, Dane Brennand, horkrux, Zullie the Witch, Itzli, Dropoff, Mayhem, and Souv, with occasional input from a few others.
