Hot on the heels of the 2.3.1 patch update we covered recently, we have just had news land direct from Activision Blizzard of what we can expect in the next major patch – 2.4, for Diablo II: Resurrected

11 years ago patch 1.13c for Diablo II was pushed out and was the last official time any balance changes were actually added to the game, which is incredible really.

Now we are deep into Diablo II Resurrected in full flow Blizzard have decided that now is the right time to introduce some balance improvements, change up a few items and generally add some polish before the first Ladder season begins.

When is Diablo II: Resurrected Patch 2.4 out?

Blizzard has confirmed to us that Patch 2.4 will launch on the Public Test Realm (PTR) on 25th January.

What is in Diablo II: Resurrected Patch 2.4?

Blizzard has been in close communication with the player base who are keen that the remaster stays as close to the original game as possible, while at the same time wanting some quality of life improvements. Patch 2.4 will bring tons of changes to skills across all character classes with the goal of expanding build diversity and class fantasy.

Blizzard tells us that: “Patch 2.4 will also introduce new Horadric Cube Recipes, Set Item changes, new Rune Words, and improvements to mercenary companions. The new Horadric Cube Recipes will let you upgrade Set Items to give even more item build possibilities and the item changes will update underperforming sets giving players more incentive to pursue partial and full set items. New Rune Words will be added to complement the changes coming to class skills and mercenaries to spice up new builds or recruit mercenaries you may not have considered before.

DIablo II Resurrected Ladder season

The ladders are pretty much the seasons in Diablo III and for the first time in Resurrected. Players will be able to compete for a top spot in the leaderboards and be able to unlock a host of unique Rune Words only found in Ladder. At the end of the season, Ladder characters will be moved into a ‘non-Ladder’ version of the game to continue playing until the next season kicks off again with new rewards.

Similar to Diablo II Classic, Resurrected will feature four differing Ladder modes:

VersionDescription
Standard LadderThe casual version of Ladder play that encompasses playing with four acts.
Hardcore LadderThe hardcore (only 1 life) version of Ladder play that encompasses playing with four acts.
Standard Expansion LadderThe casual version of Ladder play that encompasses playing five acts, as it includes the “Lord of Destruction” expansion content.
Hardcore Expansion LadderThe hardcore (only 1 life) version of Ladder play that encompasses playing five acts, as it includes the “Lord of Destruction” expansion content.

Interesting Blizzard goes on to explain: “For the first time, players will have the chance to unlock a host of new Rune Words in the Ladder system! To be clear, these Rune Words have never existed in the game before, and they will not be accessible in non-Ladder play like the previous set of Ladder-only Rune Words in the original Diablo II experience.”
