The new iPad Pro 2022 has a great deal of functionality, but is the iPad Pro a laptop replacement? You may be wondering. This is the age of portability. Everyone is looking for a powerful device to carry without compromising on power. But it’s not an issue for the users of the Apple ecosystem.

When it comes to high portability with power, the company provides not one but two options; the M2 MacBook Air and the M2 iPad Pro. But is it possible to use the iPad Pro only as the daily driver? It’s a big question, but the answer is also simple if you just open your eyes and take a look at a few things.

iPad Pro vs laptop: how to they measure up?

Apple started pitching the iPad Pro as the laptop replacement after its initial launch. And why not? The display is just about the right size. It’s powerful; you can run some of the most demanding programs with ease. There’s also a full-size keyboard that provides a decent typing experience and the astounding iPadOS. But, there are issues.

iPad Pro vs laptop: price

The MacBook Air costs $1,199. It’s a full-size laptop that takes care of all of your needs. The base mode iPad Pro costs $1,099 and $1,299 for Wi-Fi and Cellular models, respectively. The price looks more or less the same. Now, count the prices for the Apple Pencil and the Magic Keyboard. You need another $500. So, all things considered, the iPad Pro costs more if you want the laptop experience with it.

iPad Pro vs laptop: keyboard

The Magic keyboard is great: it looks and feels premium, and the typing experience is also decent. But the absence of the function keys is a problem. This may not seem like a big problem, but in the long run, it’s a bit of a limitation to functionality.

iPad Pro vs laptop: external displays

There’s also limited support for external displays. The iPad Pro will connect only to an external display with USB-C support. Otherwise, you have to get an adapter. But the biggest limitation is the limited ability to mirror screen for a single external display. There’s also the fact that the iPad Pro outputs videos to an external display only at full size. It’s great for Netflix and chilling. Not so good for productivity. There’s also limited app support and more.

Final Word: Is the iPad Pro a laptop replacement?

So, is the iPad Pro a laptop replacement? The iPad Pro is a great device, particularly the new iPad Pro 2022. It can work as a laptop. But it cannot work as your only productivity machine. If Apple is truly trying, maybe one day, the iPad Pro will become the true laptop replacement, but that time is yet to come.
