Nvidia has reportedly shifted production to the next-gen GeForce RTX 50 series with only 4050 and 4060 still in production.
The next-gen GPUs are getting closer and closer as recent rumors suggest that Nvidia has stopped making almost all its current-gen RTX 40 GPUs to focus on the upcoming RTX 50 series. According to previous rumors, we have seen that the next-gen RTX 50 series GPUs are expected to arrive as early as January 2025, with more models to launch in the month following that.
And it seems like this new rumor has just confirmed this launch window, as only the AD107 chip remains in production while all other chips including AD102, 103, 104, and 106 have been killed by Nvidia to shift production to the next-gen GPUs. However, this has only been true for the AD102 models that have consistently shown low inventory levels.
Nvidia’s Blackwell series might be ready for the launch
If Nvidia is putting a nail in the coffin for the RTX 40-series family, it only means one thing: the RTX 50 GPUs are ready to hit the shelves. Since the report on Board Channels claims that Nvidia has ended production for the RTX 4060 Ti and 4070, leaving only the RTX 4060 desktop and RTX 4050 and 4060 laptops, this suggests that the launch window for the Blackwell series aligns with what leaks have been indicating.
According to sources upstream, NVIDIA has completely shut down the AD106 production line, with all its capacity reallocated to the RTX 50 series lines. Only a single AD107 line is temporarily retained. As a result, the RTX 40 series has entered its final quarter of clearance, with mid-to-high-end RTX 40 GPUs gradually halting production and supply. The transition is accelerating, and AIC (Add-in Card) brand partners will face decreasing availability in the market.
Board Channels
Interestingly, this isn’t the first time we’ve heard about a decrease in production. A previous leak that surfaced on the online forum Gigglehd also indicated that NVIDIA is significantly reducing the supply of RTX 40-series cards to its board partners.
Excitement for the RTX 50 series is high but nothing is confirmed yet
Then again, all of this information can only be considered rumors until we get some solid confirmation. Still, it’s interesting to see these rumors align with previously leaked launch windows, which also came from Board Channels. Fingers crossed that if everything goes according to this alleged roadmap, we might see the high-end models in January, and for the likes of the RTX 5060 and 5070, we won’t have to wait until July or August next year as we did with the RTX 40-series launch. That said, as much as we are excited, we also want to see how Nvidia prices all these new cards.
