Star Wars Jedi: Survivor is one of the most graphically appealing games in 2024. The game is a sequel to Star Wars: Jedi Fallen Order, which looked as realistic as games could get at the time. Players were able to easily immerse themselves in the journey of Cal Kestis and his crew as they try to survive in a post-Order 66 galaxy.

Jedi: Survivor is expected to be even more graphically advanced, with ray tracing and other big additions. Still, one of the most important aspects of any video game is the graphics engine that it uses. The graphics engine is responsible for rendering the game’s graphics, animations, and visual effects. It can have a major impact on the overall look and feel of the game.

So, what graphics engine does Jedi Survivor use?

What engine does Star Wars Jedi: Survivor use?

Star Wars Jedi: Survivor was most likely developed using Unreal Engine 4, a popular game engine developed by Epic Games. Unreal Engine 4 is known for its advanced graphics rendering capabilities. It has been used to create some of the most visually stunning games of the past few years.

We know from GamesRadar’s interview with director Stig Asmussen that Jedi: Survivor was not made on Unreal Engine 5. The interview states that Asmussen hopes the third game in the series would use Unreal Engine 5, which implies that Jedi: Survivor used Unreal Engine 4.

Unreal Engine 4 has been used to create a wide range of games, from small indie titles to massive AAA releases. Some of the most well-known games developed using the engine include Fortnite, Gears of War 4, and Hellblade: Senua’s Sacrifice.

Will Jedi: Survivor’s sequel use Unreal Engine 5?

The interview mentioned above confirms that the next game will most likely use Unreal Engine 5. This isn’t an easy task, and most of the assets must be rebuilt or modified slightly to get into the new engine.

Asmussen himself admitted that switching engines isn’t an easy task. The team would need to retool some of their proprietary technology to work on any new engine. However, he also stated that it’s a “pretty safe assumption” that a potential sequel would be built in Unreal Engine 5.

We expect to see the final game in the trilogy completely blow us away.

What graphics engine does Star Wars Jedi: Survivor use?

It very likely uses Unreal Engine 4.

Why doesn’t Jedi: Survivor use Unreal Engine 5?

Unreal Engine 5 was released in 2021. Star Wars Jedi: Survivor most likely started development in 2019 when Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order released. It would take too much time and effort to make the switch two years into development.
