The next iOS version : iOS 17
The next full iOS release will be for iOS 17, though this is a way off yet, with little official info and only a few leaks and estimations as to what we can expect. Read our iOS 17 release date page for all the latest info as it comes out.
The latest iOS version : iOS 16
iOS 16 was the last full version of iOS released, which came out on the 12th September 2022. The main focus of the update was security and privacy improvements, although various other changes were also made.
There have been four updates released for it since launch, with iOS 16.4 being the current iOS version, and the iOS 16.5 release date being not too far on the horizon (iOS 16.5 beta 2 already being out).

Updated pre-existing apps & features: Fitness (can be used without Apple Watch), AirDrop, Lock screen (can host widgets, greater customization), Focus Mode (variant lock screen & some apps can show different content depending upon focus, list of silenced/permitted apps), Notifications (now appear from below the lock screen, count/stack/list styles, real-time notification widgets), Status Bar (shows battery % without unlocking if phone has Face ID), Settings (landscape mode), improved dictation, Live Text, Visual Search, Siri, Spotlight, Translate, Spoken Content, improved accessibility, Wi-Fi & cellular network improvements, Augmented Reality (RoomPlan can create 3D floor plans using LIDAR), Backup, Face ID, Keyboard (Haptic feedback option), controller support for Switch Joy-Con and Pro Controllers, Chinese title change, Apple TV (greater connectivity between Apple TV and iPhone), Health (Medication monitoring/alerts, Sleep Stages monitoring via Apple Watch), Apple News (My Sports & Favourites sections added plus better local news), Weather (more time-precise and detailed updates), Books (pop-up panel replaces toolbar, adjustable spacing, new theme that can adjust color temperature based on ambient light detection via True Tone), Tips (new UI), Files (can convert image filetype and size with Quick Actions), Calendar (copy & paste events between different days), Contacts (duplicate contacts automatically detected, can export contact list to file, group contacts into separate lists), Notes (can create in any app / from Lock Screen), Safari, Camera, Photos, Maps, Mail, FaceTime (Live captions automatic transcription), Messages.
Security & privacy updates and new features: Lockdown mode, Passkeys, Safety Check, Rapid Security Response, Private Access Tokens (replaces CAPTCHAs), BIMI, apps/websites now require permission to use the Clipboard.

Original iOS 15 release date (full public release): 20th September 2021
