Spotify brings a new AI-powered DJ into the mix, helping you build custom playlists while chatting over the top, you can think of it like your very own personalized radio show.
The AI DJ “in your pocket” curates your daily listening and is the latest new shiny thing from the world of artificial intelligence. Chat GPT has been a bit of a limelight hogger, so it is finally nice to see little use cases such as this from Spotify.

Whether this is genius or not is yet to be seen (heard) for ourselves but the overall idea is certainly an interesting one.

What is Spotify AI DJ?
Spotify developers are touting this as a brand-new way to listen. AI DJ will personalize what is going on based on your track record. Audio puns aside, the new beta will deliver a curated lineup of music alongside some commentary.
Having commentary during a playlist may not be everyone’s cup of tea, and if we are calling it a DJ then it sounded a bit like an old-school children’s party DJ.
The AI sorts through the latest music and looks at your favored tracks, sometimes bringing older ones you haven’t heard for some time back into the playlist.
It is an interesting dynamic way of changing up your playlists, without the need of searching for something different daily.
The AI DJ also responds to your feedback, so when you hate one of the songs it has chosen, tapping the DJ button will switch the song. The more you do this (and don’t do this) helps the AI learn what you are currently feeling music-wise.

Where to find & how to use Spotify AI DJ
According to Spotify’s newsroom, it is initially available in English for Spotify Premium users in the U.S. and Canada. The best option is through the Spotify app for those that pay for Spotify premium. The feature is from Spotify’s acquisition of Sonantic.
- Head to your Music Feed on Home in the Spotify mobile app on your iOS or Android device.
- Tap Play on the DJ card.
- Let Spotify do the rest! The DJ will serve a lineup of music alongside short commentary on the songs and artists, picked just for you.
- If you hate the song that plays, hit the DJ button at the bottom right of the screen to be taken to a different genre, artist, or mood.
As AI use cases grow, it is great to see apps such as Spotify get involved to try and make the user experience as good as it possibly can be.
When can we expect AI DJ to roll out to Europe?
It is still unknown what is going to happen with the AI DJ software, it is still in its beta stage. If it gets a nice reception and improves with development, we are pretty sure this could roll out sooner rather than later.
Is Spotify AI DJ free?
Unfortunately, Spotify AI DJ is for paying premium subscribers only for now. Whether this will roll out to all users of Spotify is unknown.
The software has seen mixed reviews thus far but we feel it is a promising step or artificial intelligence when integrated with our everyday applications. The beta is only going to get better, giving users a unique, completely hands free, listening experience.
