Is the Galaxy Book3 Ultra worth it?

Although really we’ll have to wait for hands-on independent reviews before we can definitively answer this question, based on the specifications and brief hands-on looks at the new Book3 Ultra, we can make an educated guess as to whether it will be worth your cash. We can certainly say right away that we’re very excited for its potential.

It’s notable that Samsung targeted the Galaxy Book 3 Ultra price to be $100 below the entry-level MacBook Pro 16 (2023 variant). The Galaxy Book3 Ultra is an obvious choice for a MacBook Pro alternative in 2024, one which, thanks to its 120Hz native resolution display and dedicated RTX 4050 & RTX 4070 graphics card options, would be far superior in terms of gaming (as well as from running on Windows).

Although the latest 2023 MacBook Pro 16-inch can be set to 120Hz in the settings, the resolution must be dropped to 1080p for this to work, and whilst gaming performance on the latest M2 chips is better than ever, MacOS systems are a long way away from running games as well as Windows machines. Whilst it might not compete against actual dedicated gaming laptops in its price range in terms of raw power, the Galaxy Book3 Ultra is an ultralight laptop for creatives that can also game, so offers additional features and functionality over these devices.

The one big question mark is battery life, which is very unlikely to match the very impressive 22 hours on the MacBook. We’ll have to wait for independent tests to see.

The other biggest comparison would be against the Dell XPS 15 OLED edition, which does have the advantage of a touch screen, though it’s capped at 60Hz and currently comes with last-gen GPU and CPU options, yet again costs around $100 more.

At the regular asking price, we’d advise waiting for reviews of the Book3 Ultra to come out before you buy it, however, if you manage to pick it up at the reduced pre order price of $200 off (or more if you trade in an older device), plus $50 in Samsung Store credit, then pulling the trigger on it now could be worth it.
