Sadly for fans of the game though, it appears as though it’ll be the ONLY expansion that the game gets.

CD Projekt Red Confirms Cyberpunk 2077 Phantom Liberty Is The Only Expansion

Cyberpunk 2077 Phantom Liberty Comment Section

Over on YouTube, in the comments of the trailer itself, CD Projekt Red replied to a series of comments:

I love this game so much, I’m so glad to see the team continuing to support it. I hope this isn’t the only expansion!”

If this isn’t its only expansion I’d happily throw in $20 for the next one”

Thanks for the kind words! Phantom Liberty is the only planned expansion for Cyberpunk 2077.”

It was never officially stated that we could expect multiple expansion packs, but the roadmap heavily implied it by stating that we can expect “Free DLC’s” as a plural.

It’ll be interesting to see if this means that CD Projekt Red is completely winding down development as they move to Unreal Engine 5, or if they’re looking to keep a small team working to improve the game.

The Disaster Launch Of Cyberpunk 2077

Cyberpunk 2077’s launch was marred by huge swathes of bugs and glitches reported across multiple different systems, with last-generation consoles struggling to even run the game.

It was to the degree that CD Projekt Red had to offer refunds to people, while Sony pulled the game from their storefront entirely for a long period of time.

Currently, you’re able to buy Cyberpunk 2077 on all platforms, and it’s reportedly actually rather fun now, but that taste of the launch is still stuck in the mouths of many people, making it difficult for them to get into the game.

The hope now with Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty is that the game can find a way to claw to the fabled popularity of The Witcher 3, while still keeping its player base happy. It’s a very difficult balancing act and one that CD Projekt Red risks failing entirely if they’re not careful.
