So you can buy X-Plane 12 today, but it’ll be an early access release. This means that the game will be consistently updated to fix bugs, glitches, and anything that simply doesn’t work in the game itself.

It also more than likely means that as development proceeds, more and more features will be added. This could range from adding new vehicles to adding new weather effects to even adding whole new areas for you to explore in intimate detail. It’s impossible to say exactly what it could be at this stage, but there’s a lot of potential.

Is There An X Plane 12 Beta?

Technically, the recent launch of the game is a beta. Being launched in early access means that you’re taking part in the beta, which will eventually result in the full release of the game without having to pay extra for the game once it launches.

There’s still the potential of paid DLC coming to the game later down the line, but as far as the actual game goes, once you’ve paid for it, you have access to every single version of it. It’s also important to note that the game could cost more when it comes out of early access, whenever that actually is.

X Plane 12 Gameplay Details

While some hardcore flight sim fans are probably wondering what the fuss is about. Microsoft Flight Simulator has been the de facto kind of the genre for decades, but X Plane 12 has some unique selling points that make it an interesting proposition.

Firstly, while both sims have strived for realisim, X Plane 12 has taken it to another level. Everything from the interior of the real-life crafts to how the weather looks and affects your flight, X Plane has made absolute realism the game’s name.

Another big thing for X Plane is the use of community plugins. The company behind the game, Laminar Research, has made sure that most plugins from older versions of the games are still usable, keeping the community happy, and ensuring that there’s a much higher level of customizability than competing software.

X Plane 12 System Requirements Predictions

X Plane 12 Plane Interior

Because of how early on the game is in development, the devs haven’t released system requirements just yet. However, we can take a stab at what they might be based on the last game’s requirements.

Here are our minimum system requirements predictions:

  • OS: Windows 7, 8.1, 10, 11 64-bit
  • Processor: Intel Core i3, i5, or i7 CPU with 2 or more cores, or AMD equivalent
  • Memory: 8 GB RAM
  • Graphics: DirectX 11-capable video card from NVIDIA or AMD w/1GB VRAM
  • DirectX: Version 11
  • Storage: 30 GB available space

It’s already a known fact that the game will require more GPU. Partially because of improved graphics and partially because in the game’s FAQ, the devs have alluded to more processes being handled by the GPU in this new franchise iteration.

With that in mind, it’s fair to say you’ll probably need at least 1GB of VRAM to run the title correctly. We also added 10GB of storage space to accommodate higher-quality textures and models. The last addition was the inclusion of Windows 11 in the OS requirements since the newest game will probably support it.
