With Intel’s next-generation 10nm Tiger Lake CPUs about to drop any day now, it looks like Intel has gone full steam ahead with the marketing. Intel has been sending out new marketing kits to members of the press as part of a unique campaign.

Twitter user and tech review Nathan Kirsch aka @LegitReviews shared images of the Intel marketing kit.

The promotional kit contains two orange lily seeds (Lilium Tiger’s Roar) and a letter from Intel which says:

“Summer is Coming. And so is our next-gen mobile processor, codename Tiger Lake.

“The past few months have been unique and unprecedented. We hope this tiger lily can brighten the world. Grow it or give to a friend – we can always use a little more inspiration in our lives.”

It’s certainly a fun and unique way to get some additional publicity.

When Will Tiger Lake CPUs Be Released?

Intel has confirmed that Tiger Lake CPUs will be released sometime in mid-2020, with new laptops featuring the chips gearing up for release in Q3.

What Do We Know About Tiger Lake Chips?

Intel’s Tiger Lake chips will be the 11th generation family and are exclusive to laptops and gaming notebooks. The Tiger Lake CPUs will come in three variations – Tiger Lake-Y, Tiger Lake-U, and Tiger Lake-H.

So far, we know that the Tiger Lake-Y chips will consist of 4.5 to 9 W TDPs and will feature up to four cores and eight threads. In terms of graphics, they will include a GT2 tier, Generation 12 Xe GPU.

The Tiger Lake-U chips will have a TDP of between 15 W to 28 W with four cores and eight threads. These chips will have higher clock speeds with boost speeds up to 4.5 GHz. These chips will feature the same GT2 tier Gen 12 Xe GPU as the Y chips.

The high-end Tiger Lake-H CPUs will be eight-core, 16 thread chips which will be based on the new Willow Cove architecture. These CPUs will feature up to 34 MB of cache which consists of 24 MB of L3 cache and 10 MB of L2 cache. The chips will also support DDR4 speeds of up to 3200 MHz.

How Do Tiger Lake Chips Compare To Ice Lake?

Intel has made some changes to its architecture which means the Tiger Lake CPUs will have Willow Cove cores – replacing the Sunny Cove cores found in Ice Lake CPUs.

Intel’s Xe GPUs will also deliver up to 2x performance increases over the previous 11th generation GPUs in Ice Lake chips.

It’s believed that Tiger Lake is Intel’s answer to AMD’s 7nm Zen 2 Ryzen 4000 Renoir family of chips. How they compare in terms of performance will, therefore, be interesting to see. We have already seen a leaked benchmark comparing the two CPU families but we’ll be sure to keep an eye out for more information over the next few months.
