Is GPT 4 free to use?

Unlike ChatGPT’s launch, GPT-4 is not a free web app available for everyone to try out. However, if you want to generate text using GPT-4, you’ll need a paid subscription to ChatGPT+ or ChatGPT Plus, which is the premium version of ChatGPT and costs $20 per month at the moment.

This means that, although GPT-4 is the model behind ChatGPT, only premium members with access to ChatGPT+ can use it. OpenAI has been clear about this on their announcement page for GPT-4.

However, it’s important to note that there is a usage limit when accessing GPT-4 with a ChatGPT Plus subscription.

OpenAI has mentioned that they may adjust the usage cap depending on demand and system performance, and are even considering adding another subscription tier to allow for more GPT-4 usage. For those who want to access the GPT-4 API, signing up for the waitlist is a must.

Microsoft has recently confirmed that the new Bing search experience is now powered by GPT-4, making it even more powerful and effective in providing search results.

As for ChatGPT Plus subscribers, they can access GPT-4 on the website but with a usage cap. OpenAI has stated that they will adjust the usage cap depending on the system’s capacity and demand. They expect to be severely capacity constrained initially, but they will scale up and optimize over the upcoming months.

OpenAI also mentioned that they may introduce a new subscription level for higher-volume GPT-4 usage, and they hope to offer some amount of free GPT-4 queries at some point for those who don’t have a subscription to try it out. Overall, it seems that GPT-4 access will be a premium service for the time being.
