As we approach the Vive XR Elite release date, we’re busy trying to find out everything we can about HTC’s new VR headset, so you can be sure that your Vive XR Elite pre order was worth it.
From the looks of it, we can expect the Vive XR Elite to be an impressively capable VR headset, with a lot of cool features, the ability to replicate your glasses prescription, and support for a play area of up to 10m x 10m.
Additionally, the release of the Vive XR Elite is the second of three (as far as we know) big VR hardware releases in 2024. First we had the excellent PSVR 2, now we’re getting the Vive XR Elite, and, supposedly, we going to see the Meta Quest 3 later in the year.
This means that the VR space is going to be extremely competitive this year, and while comparing the Vive XR Elite vs PSVR 2 is sort of a lost cause due to the inherent differences (Standalone vs PS5-powered.) the Vive XR Elite will be directly comparable to the eventual Meta Quest 3. We compared them anyway, because we’re just that zany.
However, today’s question is far more specific in nature, and coincidentally, directly comparable. Does the Vive XR Elite support HDR?

We started writing this page fully expecting the answer to be a big fat yes, and we wager that you were expecting it too.
However, we can’t find anything on the HTC website, the Vive website, anywhere, reputable. So, for now, can can somewhat safely say that the Vive XR Elite does not support HDR. However, we’ll gladly report otherwise if this isn’t the case.
