So, DualSense Edge vs regular DualSense, is it worth the upgrade? There is no doubt that the DualSense Edge is the superior controller, however, it also costs $199, which is almost 3x the cost of the regular old DualSense.
But is it almost 3x better? Do the additional customizable inputs really make it worth your while when there are many quality 3rd party options available from companies like SCUF.
So, today we’re going to pit the DualSense Sedge vs regular DualSense, what the differences are, and whether it’s worth the upgrade, or whether you’re good to stick with your current controller.

Due to the DualSense Edge being a Pro controller, it has all the features of the regular DualSense, in addition to its own specific features. So, if you were worried that you’d lose something you liked from the original DualSense if you upgraded, rest easy, as it’s all there, with one caveat.
This takes the form of inferior battery life. Probably due to Sony having to reduce the physical size of the battery to make room for all the extra stuff. So, the only drawback of the DualSense Edge, aside from the price, is that you only get 5-10 hours of DualSense Edge battery life, compared to the 12-15 of the regular DualSense. So, with that sort of weird disclaimer out of the way, let’s get to it.
DualSense Edge vs regular DualSense: What are you gaining with the Edge?
Of course, the primary draw for any ‘Pro’ controller is additional inputs, usually taking the form of extra paddles on the back of the controller. These allow the user to act react more quickly as they can actuate these with the fingers that are typically used just to hold the controller.
The DualSense Edge, in comparison to the Xbox Elite 2, only has 2 added inputs on the back, which can be either paddles or small semicircular nubbins. The former requires very little force to press, speeding up reaction time, the latter requires more force, reducing the chance of accidental inputs.

What you gain from the DualSense Edge vs regular DualSense doesn’t end there, though, as there are more features, for example, the hot-swap joystick modules. These allow you to replace either joystick without tools when the inevitable stick drift sets in.
You also get to change the range of R2 and L2, so you can have the full range of motion, half that, or about a third of it, which is particularly good for competitive FPS as it allows you to actuate and re-actuate the input far quicker, as it doesn’t take as long to reset.
You also get to choose your length and style of analog stick, which could initially seem like a purely aesthetic difference, but the longer the analog stick, the less force is needed to push it. This means that changing the length of the analog sticks effectively changes the sensitivity, much like changing mouse DPI.

DualSense Edge vs regular DualSense: Final Verdict
At the end of the day, the vast majority of people won’t gain anything from the DualSense Edge vs regular DualSense. It’s not a bad controller by any means, and aside from battery life, it is superior. But at the current $199 price, it won’t be worth it for most.
However, given that Stick drift is an inevitability, the DualSense Edge and its hot-swap stick modules are the only current solution for PS5 gamers who want to stay 1st party while being able to fight back against the drift.
