Now that the 70 model is getting an upgrade, it might be improving enough to get even higher on the ladder with the performance it can achieve. So does it come close to the new GPU up, we find out as we compare the RTX 4070 Super vs RTX 4070 Ti, finding the differences in performance, price, and specs.
The RTX 4070 Ti came out even before the 70, in January of 2023. Adding to the range of available top choices in Nvidia’s GPUs in the Ada generation. But a year on it is expanding its choices with the Super series as announced at CES. With the RTX 4070 Super release in January 2024, it should provide a good improvement and option for 1440p gaming. In that case, let’s find out how it holds up against something stronger.

Here we have the fundamentals of the differences between the RTX 4070 Super vs RTX 4070 Ti. These provide a good insight as to what they have to offer and where the difference comes from. It’s good to note the 4070 Ti is also getting an upgrade with the RTX 4070 Ti Super release so that also gets a better value option.
As for these two, we see that the models both are based on the same AD104 chip with the Super card on the slightly lower 350 version than the 400 of the Ti. This means it has 512 fewer CUDA cores and provides a lower-powered choice. That also with a lower clock rate overall, with the 4070 Super running a 330MHz lower base clock and 130 MHz boost clock.
After that, the two cards offer a lot of similarities. As they both come with the same memory setup, offering 12GB of GDDR6X memory, across a 192-bit memory bus, clocked at 21Gbps, meaning you get a total bandwidth of 504GB/s. That can be found to be a bit limiting as we see in their performance. The other difference is the total graphics power as the RTX 4070 Ti comes with a 65W higher rating, requiring just that much more power to run with a bigger power supply needed.
Looking at the RTX 4070 Super review from Techspot, we get a good look at how the two options compare in terms of performance. Overall we see that it’s a lot closer than we would expect. As the RTX 4070 Super vs RTX 4070 boosts its capabilities, even though it might suffer the same drawbacks, so is it the same against the 70 Ti class?
We see the RTX 4070 Ti just about holding up against the RTX 4070 Super. At 1080p the 4070 Super achieves an average 142 FPS, compared to the RTX 4070 Tis 150. Whilst at 1440p, that difference is similar as the Super averages 105 and the Ti gets 112. Whilst at 4K both suffer from a lowered performance, although the 70 Ti just averages above 60 on 63, whilst the Super drops down to 58.
When considering buying your GPU, the obvious consideration is how much it’s going to cost you. Since the RTX 4070 Super stays the same price as the original card, then you get a lot more value from it with the price you pay. It has a launch price of $599, whilst the Ti has a price of $799. This means the RTX 4070 Ti is $200 more expensive than the RTX 4070 Super.

It’s quite clear that the RTX 4070 Super is better than the RTX 4070 Ti. Of course, it is slower but by only 5 to 8% which is just a couple of frames here and there. It’s not a significant difference, but the major thing is it is $200 cheaper for that performance. That makes it even more appealing to get the best value out of your GPU.
