Pros
  • High core count for an entry level CPU
  • High base and boost speeds
  • Efficient
  • backwards compatible with 12th gen motherboards
Cons
  • Runs very warm

The Intel i5-13600K, with its impressive 14-core and 20-thread configuration, boasts excellent power efficiency with clock speeds exceeding 5GHz. Notably, it operates much cooler than its larger 13900K counterpart. This highlights Intel’s capability in both the high and low-end CPU markets.

The 13900K delivers exceptional value for its price, falling between the 7600X and 7700X on Team Red’s side, outperforming the former and nearly matching the latter. Intel has undoubtedly demonstrated its dominance in the current market.

For those seeking an affordable upgrade, the 13600K offers an ideal solution for average gamers. Additionally, its 20 threads make it a perfect fit for multi-core-based workloads, striking a balance that many CPUs lack. The 13600K is an all-around performer, excelling in a variety of tasks. This includes running Diablo 4.

Pros
  • Incredible single-core performance
  • Interesting IHS
  • Very power efficient
  • surpasses other CPUs with more cores
Cons
  • Hard to cool, runs very hot

The AMD Ryzen 5 7600X, part of the Raphael CPU family, delivers impressive performance for gaming Diablo 4, and is reasonably priced. Therefore, we have selected it as our second-best option for playing the latest Diablo installment.

With six cores running at a core clock speed of 4.7 GHz, the 7600X can reach a peak performance of 5.3 GHz during heavy usage. Its 12 threads offer the computing power of 12 cores, albeit with a minor reduction in speed. Additionally, it supports DDR5 memory, including dual-channel sticks operating at 5200 MHz. Pairing the chip with 16GB or more of RAM ensures smooth, lag-free gameplay at the highest settings.

Similar to the 5800X3D, this AMD chip has a 105W TDP, which ensures a cooler running system without requiring an expensive cooling solution (although investing in one is always a good idea to maximize component longevity).

Pros
  • Inexpensive
  • Incredible performance
  • 3D V-cache
Cons
  • No cooler
  • No native overclocking support

The Ryzen 7 5800X3D is a remarkable achievement in CPU engineering, claiming the title of “best gaming CPU” from Intel’s Core i9 12900K. However, there are a few reasons why it’s not at the top of our list today. With eight multithreaded CPU cores and an impressive 96MB of AMD 3D V-cache, it outperforms many CPUs in gaming scenarios.

The 3D V-Cache is what sets this CPU apart from all others, making it the only one to use this technology. Unlike a typical 2D cache, the 3D cache is stacked vertically using new 3D printing technology, resulting in more chiplets fitting into a given space, increasing cache capacity without sacrificing access speeds. This vertical stacking allows AMD to achieve a massive 96MB L3 cache with a total access speed of 2TB/s in its 5800X3D CPUs.

Despite its impressive caching technology, the 5800X3D has lower core speeds of 3.4GHz base and 4.5GHz max, even lower than its sibling, the 5800X, due to instability at higher core speeds. As a result, the 5800X3D isn’t suitable for single-core workloads or workstation tasks, lacking overclocking support. However, it is an excellent choice for fully-fledged gaming CPUs.

While the 5800X3D performs exceptionally well in certain gaming scenarios, its lower core speeds and lack of overclocking support mean it is regularly outperformed by cheaper CPUs that don’t use the 3D cache technology in non-cache scenarios, even in gaming.

Best CPU for Diablo 4 FAQs

Can AMD Ryzen 5 run Diablo 4?

AMD Ryzen 5 processors are capable of running Diablo 4 – for example, our suggested Ryzen 5 7600X is great for the job and reasonably priced.

You can head up to Ryzen 7 or Ryzen 9 if you want better performance or less stress on your system, but this is optional with Diablo 4.

Is Diablo 4 CPU intensive?

Diablo 4 is not a particular intensive game in general, especially for a 2023 release, so we can’t really say it’s CPU intensive at all. The game is well optimized and if anything is more reliant on your graphics card, as many modern games are.
