With the imminent launch of the Overwatch 2 beta right around the corner, Blizzard Entertainment is revealing more and more about what the public can expect. So far, we have had the Sojourn content, but now we have confirmation of the Overwatch 2 Doomfist rework, along with an Orisa rework. Here is what we now know about the class rework.

Update: The Doomfist rework is now featured in the live Overwatch 2 beta patch notes.

Overwatch 2 Doomfist rework

Blizzard Entertainment a while back that Doomfist is becoming a tank, and that kit appears to be true. The big metal propellant man has got a new kit, making his fist charge in, big punches and AOE sky drop ultimate feel entirely different.

Firstly, Doomfist is now a tank with an HP increase to 450. In addition, his Hand Cannon is now slightly different, with a 0.4-second ammo recharge and his pellets getting weaker with a 5 HP damage pellet, rather than 6. The Hand Cannon nerf is a testament to the character’s now off-tank like role.

As for the first new Doomfist rework ability, there is now a skill called Power Block. Doomfist now protects himself from frontal attacks. The skill also has a mechanic that empowers your Rocket Punch skill, which remains largely the same as in Overwatch 1.

While the Rocket Punch is fairly similar, the new differences between the two versions are largely how the skill is used. Blizzard lowered the Rocket Punch damage to between 15-30, which is down from the charge time damage of 50-100. The damage of the wall slam is also lower to 20-40, rather than the 50-150. The nerf if to its damage is likely down to the dramatically reduced charge time, as the max charge time is now 1 second to emphasize Doomfist’s new tanky and disruptor playstyle.

Seismic Slam now does something slightly different. The skill now makes you jump rather than leap forward and slam enemies down, just like Winston’s dive ability. In addition, the skill no longer knocks down enemies when you land, and instead, deals AOE damage and slows opponents in the area.

The Meteor Strike ultimate is also not escaping the tank playstyle adaptations. The ultimate ability now applies a slow to all enemies that are hit by Doomfist’s skill. Meanwhile, the outer damage of the ring is dramatically lowered, to 100 at the centre and 15 at the furthest away point of the skill’s radius. Once again, the nerf to the damage scales with the changing activation time, as the skill now deploys 0.5 seconds after the ultimate landing zone activation. So, rest assured the identity of Doomfist is not changing with the Overwatch 2 Doomfist rework.

Sadly, those who loved Uppercut will be disappointed, as the Upper Cut ability is now dead. No more will Doomfist launch people into the air and then land a big charge into the wall. Blizzard replaced Uppercut with the Power Block skill, but, as you can tell by the empowerment, it means that Doomfist’s actually playstyle doesn’t change too much; rather his role is switched.

This concludes the Overwatch 2 Doomfist rework. Good luck to all those testing the hero out as Blizzard’s invite waves are sent out for public access to the upcoming Overwatch 2 beta.
