Sony, the ever-present arbiter of cutting-edge entertainment technology, has launched its official website for PSVR2, which you can find here. However, there was more detail present in their official announcement of the headset, which we’ve covered over here than there is on the brand-new page itself.

Sony touts the Playstation VR 2 as having a ‘huge generational leap forward’ and promises users ‘4K HDR visuals’ in some titles, meaning that you can experience incredibly sharp visuals that you may have never seen before from console VR. This headset is unique in the fact that you probably won’t be able to connect it up to a PC for playing PC VR games, so just take that into account before you rush out and get hyped. It’s most likely going to be strictly restricted to the PlayStation Store and Playstation 5 usage only. Or, as Sony likes to tell us ‘all made possible by the power of PS5’ – This seems like a roundabout way of saying that you’re probably not going to be able to use the headset on other platforms, unlike how the Meta Quest 2 allows you to play PC VR titles if you set everything up in the right way.

Regardless, ultimately Sony is relying on you to have both a Playstation 5, in addition to the PSVR2 headset for this to function at all. But, to be fair, they are also implementing features like haptic feedback that we’ve never seen before in the VR space. With technology similar to the Dualsense implemented in its controllers, as we’ve explained here, you can expect a deeply immersive experience from the Playstation VR 2, with none of the faff of having to set it up on your PC.

Playstation VR 2 boasts cutting-edge features

With things such as eye-tracking, two displays with each eye giving you a 2000 x 2040 with an OLED panel, you can expect to enjoy over four times the resolution seen in the original Playstation VR headset, which is no slouch. We’re most excited about the OLED panel present in the PSVR2, as it’s sure to bring us some incredibly impressive visuals, depending on the performance of the title that you might be playing. With a maximum refresh rate of up to 120Hz, it could make for an extremely high-end device that consumers will inevitably rush to buy whenever Sony releases it.

Additionally, Sony boasts headset feedback, too which promises to bring you an intelligent tactility and nuance to whichever titles you might be playing on the system, which might cause some issues to start with, and might make some players feel more than a little bit sick. But, with the right implementation, it could be just another factor in the sheer immersion that the Playstation VR 2 manages to achieve.

Additionally, you can also enjoy the 3D audio present on the PlayStation 5, meaning that you are able to immerse yourself even further into the VR experiences that you will inevitably be able to enjoy on the PSVR2
