CSGO has been growing in size and so has its market of skins and customizations. So with the news that Counter-Strike 2 skins will carry over from CSGO, the market has reacted with skin prices skyrocketing in CSGO and what will become CS2.

On the 22nd of March, Valve confirmed the release of the new version. And introduced the limited test to some users of CSGO. Which has shown the rest of us what to expect from the newer version of the engine.

With a main feature becoming the change of how CS2 smokes and nades work. But another fundamental of the engine is the new engine and how everything looks, with improved lighting and textures of everything.

Skin price inflation

Now with the confirmation of the new game, it might have been the case the skin prices would drop. But that’s because they would no longer be valid and not a worthy inventory to keep.

However, since Valve said the skins will move forward, players can be sure of their inventory moving with them. As such they will be useful in the newly updated engine.

And now in that engine, they will look much better as well. This has meant people are keener to use those skins and actually buy them knowing they won’t be useless for a few years at least.

What that means is the pricing has been increasing. So if you’ve got a good supply of ski-ns, you could easily sell them for a good chunk, or keep enjoying them in the new light as others aim to feel the same way.

We can look at some of the examples that lead us to find the inflation of the prices. Such as these Shadow Daggers | Doppler, before the 22nd were selling in the $160-180 range. But now have increased to around the $300 mark (excluding the random peaks).

Now, this is mainly for the Doppler range of skins, as the likely overhaul is making them look so much better. But this might move over to many other instances where people find the difference to be that much nicer.

Other skins we have seen rising:

  • Bayonet | Doppler: ~$600 -> ~$850
  • Karambit | Doppler: ~$1,200 -> ~$1,400
  • Even the Glock-18 | Gamma Doppler: ~$22 -> $50

Although these were already high-cost skins, they have had a good shift in price. Which might come over to similar ranges of skins that improve that much more in visuals in the new engine.
