Threads has taken the social media world by storm so far, rivaling the Twitter platform immediately upon its release. You log in with your Instagram account, so why not show off an easy way to navigate between the two? Well, there’s an important question to answer: can you unhide Threads badge on Instagram?

Meta launched Threads on July 5 2023, and it immediately gained traction – especially as criticism of Twitter continues to pile up. No matter your take on the two social media platforms, competition is generally a good thing. If you already own an Instagram account, trying out Threads seems like a pretty good option, and unhiding your Threads badge would make it easier for users to switch between the two profile pages.

Can you unhide Threads badge on Instagram?

At the time of writing, there unfortunately isn’t a way to unhide the numbered Threads badge on the Instagram app. Once it’s gone, it’s gone for good. Some reports claimed that there was a way to claim it back, but our own tests found no solution at the moment. From what we’ve seen on the browser version of Instagram and Threads though, there is a badge at the top of the profile which provides a link between the two platforms. We don’t yet know if this differs from the numbered badge in the Instagram app.

How to hide Threads badge on Instagram

The current way to hide the badge is performed when you first join Threads, where you’ll be given your join number and provided with the option to ‘Hide badge’. Remember though, if you hide the temporary badge, then you won’t be able to get it back! Regardless, the badge is just a temporary fixture to promote the platform for Instagram users.

What is the Threads badge on Instagram?

The Threads badge on Instagram is a way for users to navigate to your Threads profile page easily directly through your Instagram page. It obviously makes sense that the two sites are closely associated, as they are both owned by Meta and are inherently linked due to having the same log in.

As you can see in the image above, the Threads badge on browser sits next to the ‘Follow’ and ‘Message’ buttons on your Instagram page (at the very top). Clicking it will take you to the associated Threads page. Likewise, your Threads page can show an Instagram badge/button to take you back.

In the Instagram App, this Threads badge instead appears under your profile picture, with a number beside it indicating your join number.

How to find your Threads badge on Instagram

We’ve explained that your Threads badge will appear at the top of your Instagram page. If you don’t see it, then it has unfortunately been hidden. When you set up your Threads page for the first time, you will be given this badge – which can then be showcased on your Instagram.

You’ve probably even seen the badge immediately upon creating your account, where you’ll be told that ‘You’re No. [your join number here] to join Threads’. Immediately after creating the new profile, you can see your join number displayed beside your Threads badge.

From there, you can click ‘View Threads profile’ or ‘Hide badge’, in case you didn’t want the two accounts so publicly linked. This initial Threads badge with the join number attached is however temporary, and clicking ‘Hide badge’ will remove it from your profile, and you can’t add it back.
