This is one question that is on many people’s minds: can the RTX 4060 Ti do 4K? The RTX 4060 Ti 8GB reviews are in, and benchmarks are here. While Nvidia themselves mostly focused on the card’s performance at 1080p, other reviewers wanted to see how they could push the card’s limits – and that meant jumping up to 4K (while stopping off at 1440p in the process).

As a mid-range card, there are of course more powerful choices out there. But if you want to play at 4K on a budget, then you may look towards the RTX 4060 Ti. The 4060 Ti is actually coming with two variants – the 8GB and 16GB VRAM models. This can play an important role in its 4K performance – so let’s see if the RTX 4060 Ti can do 4K or not.

Can RTX 4060 Ti do 4K gaming?

We’d have to say that the RTX 4060 Ti isn’t the best card for 4K gaming out there, but that shouldn’t be a surprise to too many people though. However, the performance may be a little less ideal than you first thought, especially with the 8GB variant of the graphics card.

In the name of power efficiency, the 4060 Ti actually downgraded the memory bus and bandwidth, even compared to the previous generation 3060 Ti. The 40-series card features a 128-bit memory bus and just 288 GB/s of bandwidth. This affects the performance at higher resolutions such as 4K. It seems that Nvidia has really targeted maximum 1080p performance and minimal power consumption with the RTX 4060 Ti. That doesn’t mean it’s completely hopeless though.

When it comes to 4K benchmarks, plenty has been done since the card has been available for a hands-on review. A 15-game average from Techspot’s benchmarks places the average 4K framerate at 38 FPS for the 8GB edition of the RTX 4060 Ti. Since we do not have any 16GB reviews just yet.

Here are some examples to take a look at, with an i5-13600K CPU and 32GB of DDR5 RAM installed.

  • CS:GO (High settings, Dust 2): 186 FPS
  • Overwatch 2 (Ultra settings): 126 FPS
  • Forza Horizon 5 (Ultra, RT & DLSS off): 77 FPS
  • Cyberpunk 2077 (Ultra, RT Ultra, DLSS 3 Performance, Frame Gen on): 35 FPS
  • Cyberpunk 2077 (Ultra, RT Ultra, DLSS off): 1 FPS

Obviously, the first two games on the list are competitive and way more optimized, without ray tracing involved. However, the following games really provide a contrast, especially if you want to turn on ray tracing or have DLSS off.

Can the RTX 4060 do 4k?

Now with the reviews available, we get to see what the 4060 can do. But it’s kind of what we expected in terms of its capabilities at 4k. It is targeting the 1080p sector for certain. Especially considering the limited 8GB of VRAM and lower bandwidth of the card even compared to the RTX 3060 it is succeeding. This limits its performance and what it can achieve at that level even just 1440p options.

Therefore many reviewers don’t even bother to include the highest resolution. Like in Techspots review, it just averages over 60FPS at that 1440p standard. Gamers Nexus does show off some of the 4k performance of the 4060, and here’s the kind of performance you can expect:

  • Cyberpunk 2077 – 38.1 FPS
  • FFXIV – 53.1 FPS
  • F1 2022 – 56.9 FPS
  • Tomb Raider – 53.9 FPS

So realistically you have to rely on upscaling to get a more enjoyable experience with at least 60 FPS. It’s not the primary focus of that card and in a lot of other titles with heavier textures, it will be limited by its VRAM capabilities and even the previous generation choice is a better option to go for.

Can the RTX 4060 Ti or RTX 4060 do 4K? FAQs

Is the RTX 4060 Ti good for 4K?

We’d say there’s much better options out there if you want to enjoy 4K gaming, and the RTX 4060 Ti is designed with 1080p in mind, while catering for 1440p pretty well too.

For older, optimized games, you can get away with playing at 4K on the RTX 4060 Ti – but this won’t do for modern titles which are more GPU-intensive.

Can the RTX 4060 Ti do ray tracing at 4K?

The tech in the 40-series GPUs makes it possible to enjoy ray tracing, but the framerate won’t be ideal at 4K with the RTX 4060 Ti, depending on the title.

We’ve included some benchmarks to get an idea of how it performs at 4K, ray tracing on and off.
