Today we’re going to figure out: are the RTX 4060 Ti and RTX 4060 overkill for 1080p? Playing at 1080p remains a popular choice for many gamers, who don’t have the resources or budget to upgrade to 1440p or even 4K. The 4060 models come within the mid-range of the 4000 series GPUs, as Nvidia’s most affordable 40-series SKU.
Just before you figure out where to buy one, it’s good to do some research and figure out if it’s really the best choice for what you need. If you’re sticking to a 1080p monitor, you’re probably going to want to know if it’s overkill for your current setup. We talk you through all the details. The RTX 4060 Ti is a great card for 1080p, however, there are question marks over its performance vs the RTX 3060 Ti and RX 6750 XT.
Is the RTX 4060 overkill for 1080p?
The RTX 4060 release is a lower-tier option compared to the Ti model. It also has a focus on 1080p gaming and aims at that HD resolution more than anything else. Especially with the 8GB GDDR6 VRAM and limited bandwidth it has to offer, it cannot sustain those higher textures and how much they require.
From Techspots review we do see the performance of the GPU. It averages 91FPS across 15 games at 1080p, this gives you good fidelity and framerate but certainly doesn’t make it too much for the resolution. Certainly, if you do want to run the higher frame rates, it still requires some tinkering. Whereas at 1440p, you get a much lower average of 61, so it’s best to look at a case-by-case basis to see if it’s suitable for your needs, but certainly its a good fit rather than overkill.
Is RTX 4060 Ti overkill for 1080p?
Should you get the RTX 4060 Ti for 1080p gaming then? We don’t think that the GPU is going to be particularly overkill for 1080p, though it is hovering on the edge of the definition. If you want high frames at max settings in modern titles, the RTX 4060 Ti has no problem at 1080p. We’d say that the card is also well suited for 1440p, but less so at 4K.
It’s advised you have a decent CPU to back it up though if you’re going to play at this lower 1080p resolution, to avoid any GPU / CPU bottleneck.
If you’re only going to be playing optimized competitive titles, you probably don’t need the 4060 Ti – and in this case, it can be seen as overkill. Especially games where you won’t be making full use of the ray tracing capabilities of the card.
How does the RTX 4060 Ti perform at 1080p?
The performance for the RTX 4060 Ti at 1080p is fantastic. The card is more than enough for this resolution, without straying off too much into overkill territory. If you want high frames in some modern titles with ray tracing on at 1080p, then this card delivers.
Nvidia have been showing off benchmarks for the RTX 4060 Ti at 1080p to show it’s power. Thanks to the Ada Plus DLSS 3 and RT capabilities, you can fully max out plenty of games and reach super high FPS. If you don’t really care for having as much FPS as possible, then 1440p is what we would suggest for the 4060 Ti, especially as more and more games support DLSS 3.
