The new iPhone 14 specs (for all variants of the phone) were finally revealed at the Apple Far Out event 2022. We finally got an answer to the question “What is the iPhone 14 going to look like?” and got to see the new SKU of the iPhone 14 Plus (which sits between the standard iPhone 14 version and the iPhone 14 Pro). What does the iPhone 14 look like?
The standard iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Plus look very similar to the iPhone 13, with a visible notch and very similar shape and design. The main difference in terms of aesthetics is the different color options available.
The iPhone 14 Pro models however look a bit more different than their predecessors: the camera bumps are larger, given the bigger camera lenses, and the display looks a bit different as it does not have the same notch but a new Dynamic Island feature (more on this below).
Is there a notch on the iPhone 14?
Yes. The standard iPhone 14 has a notch much like that on the iPhone 13, however, the iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max have a new Dynamic Island instead. This is essentially something that is part a physical, hardware notch, part software based – shrinking and expanding depending on what is on the display (you can see a short video this in the tweet below).
From everything we’ve heard, seen, and smelled, the iPhone 14 is going to look much the same as the iPhone 13 does, however screen sizes, the aforementioned notch, and the thickness of the bezels could be a little different.

Does the iPhone 14 have Touch ID?
No. The new iPhone 14 does not have Touch ID. Apple have opted to save space inside their devices and rely entirely upon Face ID for security in their new iPhones.
Is the iPhone 14 waterproof?
Yes, but don’t go snorkeling with it as it won’t stand anything past the iP68 certification: i.e. “fit enough to withstand dust, dirt, and sand, and are resistant to submersion up to a maximum depth of 1.5m underwater for up to thirty minutes”, which should suffice nicely for most people.
Does the iPhone 14 have a SIM tray?
Whether or not the iPhone 14 has a SIM tray depends on your region. An iPhone 14 bought in the US relies on a soldered-on eSIM which is fixed to the phone’s motherboard. Whereas other regions may still utilise a SIM tray.
Does the iPhone 14 use USB-C or Lightning port?
The iPhone 14 still uses Lightning port connections and cables, and not USB-C. This is despite the hopes and rumors that the iPhone 14 would change to the more widely used USB-C port standard. Here’s hoping for next year!
