Nvidia’s RTX 4070 is ready to release to the masses, so we’ve put together an RTX 4070 review roundup to help you piece together everything there is to know about this new GPU. Most importantly, we want to get to the bottom of whether if this 4000 series graphics card is worth the money. Valuable information before you head off to find out where to buy RTX 4070.

Expectations for the RTX 4070 have been building up ever since news if it’s upcoming release broke. It’s been fantastic to see what the likes of the 4090 could deliver, but we always want to see a new GPU which is a little more budget-friendly in the mid-range – a sweet spot for many gamers.

RTX 4070 review roundup

So let’s jump straight into the roundup of some of the most insightful reviews out there. We’ve already heard plenty about the RTX 4070 specs, price, size, and more, so it’s time to get some more feedback from those who’ve had more of a hands-on experience with the RTX 4070.

Many of reviews below go into further detail with their own benchmarks. This means you’ll be able to have a closer look at how many frames you’ll be getting in some of the most popular games right now. Both 1440p and 4K performance is being tested for reference.

Straight away, it’s looking like the RTX 4070 is sort of an RTX 3080 equivalent. Let’s see what others have been saying about this newest release in the 4000 series.

Starting off with a 4 star rating out of 5, Tom’s Hardware boils it down simply by saying that it roughly matches the RTX 3080 for $100 less, but now including DLSS 3. They say that the RTX 4070 has great features against it’s “mostly reasonable” price. The biggest pros are the GPU’s efficiency and the excellent upgrades in ray tracing and AI technology.

Yet again, you’ll notice that Dexerto come in straight away with a 4 out of 5 stars rating, pointing out that $599 is much more palatable for the common consumer. They point out that the Founders Edition is ideal for smaller PC setups, all the while providing good (and quieter) cooling.

The comparison to the RTX 3080 is clear when benchmarking comes into play. The is performing extremely well in 1440p, and showing that it can compete at 4K too.

Next up is The Verge’s verdict. We’re sensing a pattern here as they say they could end the review on “it’s simply a $599 RTX 3080”. Of course there’s much more to it than that though. They go on to praise it’s solid performance in 1440p – while yet again comparing it to the RTX 3080 and pointing out the 4070 has a lower power draw for efficiency. DLSS 3 is one of the biggest factors which separate the two generations of course, and this is something which contrasts these two GPUs.

Engadget comes in with an overall score of 88/100 – pretty good we’d say. They go on to call the RTX 4070 ‘The new 1440p gaming leader’ as many of us would expect. This of course takes over from the previous generation 3070 and sits below the 4070 Ti, which may be too much off a price hike for some to consider.

Eurogamer also leads with the RTX 4070 being a challenger to the RTX 3080, along with the lower MSRP of $599. As you’d expect, this is another review praising the 1440p performance increase for the price. They go on to do further comparisons to the 3080, pointing out the additional 2GB of VRAM for the 4070 and all-important support for DLSS 3.

So, that leaves many of the initial reviews reaching similar verdicts. A more than capable card for 1440p, and a direct competitor and somewhat improvement upon last generation’s RTX 3080.

You’re not going crazy with the spending at $599 for the Founders Edition, but some are saying that it’s worth sticking around to see what other manufacturers can muscle up too. One of the biggest revelations is that the RTX 4070 looks to be extremely similar to the 3080 in terms of performance, and this gives us a good benchmark to compare prices with.
