As the Ada series blooms, then there is some expectation from the lower-end cards and something more affordable. And not launching at the same time as the rest, the RTX 4070 specs are quite a consideration to a few customers, so as the 4070 release date nears, we look as to what to expect from it.
The 40 series has launched with a mixed reception, as the RTX 4090 has been a great success although at a high asking price, but not too much more than previous. Whilst the 4080 dramatically increased MSRP with the performance and hasn’t been too popular. And the 4070 Ti had its own range of issues. So we’re not sure how the 4070 instead will be received depending on its price to performance.
RTX 4070 specs : rumored & confirmed specs
Even with the release date around the corner supposedly, there hasn’t been much official confirmation from Nvidia as to what the card has. But that doesn’t mean leaks and rumors don’t show up to give an idea of what the card entails. With VideoCardz showing off what looks like an Nvidia slide of the card details.
One early leak shows a GPU-Z validation with many of the confirmed specs we expected from earlier leaks and speculation.
With these expected 4070 specs, there is a clear change in what the card has to offer. Especially with the generational improvement, the same CUDA count will mean the 4070 is a good jump over the previous card. But it doesn’t increase and aims more at consistent pricing, unlike the other Ada cards that jump in specs and price too much.
The clock rate has been able to improve with the move back to TSMC for its process. With a 700 MHz higher potential boost clock, even custom cards will likely raise that even further. This then raises the FP32 compute up to 29 TFLOPS, a significant increase of the 3070.
Even though the 40 card increases the capacity of memory by 4GB and to the faster GDDR6X spec, it decreases the memory bus. As it might not fulfill the full range but still has a higher bandwidth up at 504 GB/s.
This comes even with a supposed lower board power at 200W by just 20 lower even though it was suggested it would be higher. This does make it run cooler and less cost, but that comes at a supposed higher price point by $100. So the price to performance might be worth it.

Nvidia RTX 4070 GPU-Z validation
Like we mentioned, big news of a GPU-Z validation reveals that many of the specs turned out to be as we expected. This GPU-Z validation shows off the RTX 4070 specs, revealed for the first time. This was submitted on April 6th, just a week before the supposed release date. As you can see below, most specs match up with what we’re already aware of. This is without any overclocking of course.
One of the intriguing things here though is that this particular validated card is running PCIe x16 3.0, rather than Gen4. Despite this, we expect that the 4070 will support PCie x16 4.0, in line with the rest of the 40 series and other modern graphics cards if your motherboard has support for it. The boost clock speed also comes in at 2535 MHz from this particular validation, just a little lower than some estimates.
RTX 4070 FAQs
How much VRAM does the 4070 have?
The RTX 4070 is rumored to have 12GB of GDDR6X memory. Which is 4GB more and a faster spec than what the 3070 ran. Which is also run on a 192-bit bus, clocked at 21 Gbps and all with a bandwidth of 504 GB/s.
How fast is the RTX 4070?
The RTX 4070 is rumored to have a base clock of 1,920 MHz and a boost clock of 2,475 MHz, with custom cards likely increasing that further. Which in general is also much faster than the RTX 3070 achieved.
When does the RTX 4070 come out?
The release date for the RTX 4070 is all but officially confirmed. We expect to see it arrive and available to purchase on April 13th.
RTX 4070 specs : Final word
There’s already a ton of information out there if you want to know exactly what the RTX 4070 specs are. We’d say that these specifications are all but officially confirmed by Nvidia themselves, with many early leaks and speculation holding true following a recent GPU-Z validation.
Once the card becomes available (likely on April 13th), we’ll get to see if any of this information differs in any way – though we don’t expect to be surprised by anything by now.
